Nice of you to overlook all the good we do in the world that would be sorely missed. What are you European or a leftist liberal punk?

Neither, but thanks for the radical assumptions, they always make people look ridiculous, its easier to debate people that way.

It says DFW on my info over there to the left. DFW stands for the Dallas-Forth Worth metroplex in the state of Texas, which is one of the 50 states in the United States.

in your case, this should read:
3) Because Americans are horrible. Down with the USA and all the trouble they cause in the world. If we could only break the power of the US to interfere, the rest of the world would flower in blossoms.

Ok seriously, I was just saying that the guy is acting like the Americans who hate everything non-American. I'm not saying all are like this.

My point is that people need to have an open mind, and not just automatically resort to extremely patriotic ideals. Well wait a second, patriotism is fine, I love it, but when you're ignorant about it, well ... that's disgusting.

I voted Scottish, but I'm biased.

Since I was born and lived in Scotland until I was 6, I have a Scottish accent. It only really comes out around my parents or fellow Scots. Because it is not strong it no longer sounds like a Glasgow accent, but more like a Edinburgh or scottish upper class accent.

As for my Australian accent, it's pretty stock standard (by Australian standards).

See when I met some Australian friends in NYC last year, the only word you could use to describe them was "nice." When I think Australian I think, "damn, those guys are just plain cool."

I'm sure you're a nice guy Australianlibertarian.

I know a little chinese. Enough to say hello, goodbye, have you eaten, thank you, and count to ten. I live and work in America. I expect English to be spoken and so does the company I work for. The Indian-Americans at the very least speak English with each other, probably because there is no single Indian language. The neighboring team somehow got 3 chinese assigned to it. When they get together, they speak Chinese with each other. Normally this would not be a problem except it is done in the cubical right next to mine, so while I am trying to focus on my work, I got to listen to this bull**** tonal language being spoken next door. I went over there a few months back when they were all talking that crap and I told them that they were disturbing me with their speaking of chinese and that they should really practice their english, which is quite good by the way. They didn't listen. They are very inconsiderate.

I wonder why, you seem to have a way with people.

You realise English-speaking people speak their language in other countries too? Inconsideration is universal.

But my point is that Mandarin, for someone who understands it (more than hello and good bye), is a very nice Chinese dialect. It's why it's the official's language, and not something like Cantonese. That may be one person's opinion, but at least I come from the stand point of someone who speaks it (and other Chinese dialect) fluently.

Someone who's capable of poking fun at themselves? Relax a little. That post was tongue in cheek...somewhat...I think.

Yes it was, thank you.

Bull****, chinese is a crap language.

I will speak out against that view, tongue in cheek or not.

Why? Self deprecatory humour is always to be commended.
It simply means someone is confident enough in his society to send it up. It is a national pastime in the UK.

That's not self deprecatory humor, that's willful ignorance promoting a warped partisan political world-view. The "America is bad" view. I've no patience for such stupidity.

It's self-deprecating for those who can see it. Not in the same class as the UK but self -deprecating nonetheless. Only in Britain would someone produce a book called "Crap Towns", listing the 50 worst places to live in the UK, and only in Britain would they quickly be forced to produce a sequel, "Crap Towns II" because they were inundated with mail from angry Brits complaining that their town wasn't on the original list!

I disagree, it was using hyperbole to exemplify what the poster considers not very logical or attractive habits within his own society. He made no such blanket statement as "America is bad", and as an American he is entitled to criticise his society. He used irony quite effectively in his over-the-top statements of US superiority, and his post demonstrated that he is confident enough in the value of his society, to send it up a little. None of that was even approaching stupidity. :)

It is not the

Woohoo! USA! USA! USA! We're number 1,

hyperbole and mindless nationalistic praise for our own country - that I find humorous as well. It is the

we're gonna blow up the whole world!!!

comment that I find objectionable. After all that we have done to do the exact opposite.

Turn your mind off and READ:

First of all, I'm not partisan at all. I hate partisanship. Hell I don't even consider myself a liberal/conservative/what have you because my political mind changes every single day.

I love this country as much as you do man, I'm as much an American as you are. I don't criticize the U.S. as much as I support it. If you are restricting yourself from criticizing or questioning your own country, your own people, then you are being truly ignorant.

And what I said does NOT (READ THIS! THIS RIGHT HERE!!!!) it does NOT apply to ALL Americans. It doesn't even apply to MOST Americans, I was simply exaggerating the belief that the U.S. is the "best" and everyone else is an "enemy." I can understand that maybe where you live, you don't see people like that, but trust me buddy, living in Dallas, Texas, you get people like that every day of the week.

So there are two things I have actually proven:

1). You are incapable of questioning the very country you live in, which is like, the definition of ignorance
2). You really don't know what "sarcasm" means

I'm not trying to flame you here, I'm just trying to get you to read and understand my posts, because you clearly have not been doing so.

We are the same in this regard.

I wasn't questioning your love or patriotism for our country. I certainly criticize it. It may be perfect in conception, but not in practice - of course the founders knew this which is why the created it as they did.

I know this idea that America is always the best and I find your comment on it funny. I admit there is truth in your depiction of some Americans' attitude that everyone else is the "enemy", for instance let's nuke the middle east and be done, and I find it despicable and not funny at all. Clearly hyperbole didn't rub my funny bone.

What I find truly despicable is the attitude on the left that this is America's policy in the world. We have done so much to build the world to peace and they won't recognize it. I assumed you were coming from this perspective. I see now that you weren't so I apologize.

I don't believe you showed the first, but in this case I am guilty of the second.

Make up your mind.

I don't see you showing that I changed my mind.

Now you're just being stubborn.

Actually I'm probably just as stubborn for trying to convince you that you are being ignorant and that you have contradicted yourself.

If you wanna be like that, we can take it to the basement, but its clear that a conversation that actually makes sense is going to be impossible with you.

I'm done here.

Also ... hey look this is my 888th post! :D

Stubborn and ignorant? Yet, you can't produce an example and clearly demonstrate it? Blow me.

as some yankee-centric person put one up on american accents, i've decided to do an international one, so which accent sounds better, cant choose your own country.

I picked your country

Not when America is the subject. Then, it's "partisanship" and "European socialist left-wing hatred". ;)
Self-deprecation shouldn't be used outside of the UK anyway, it's too dangerous to those who doesn't know how to deal with it.

I like a deep, firm voice on a man. If he is clear in his speech and his voice could melt butter... then I'm all over it. I didn't vote for that reason.
