It's self-deprecating for those who can see it. Not in the same class as the UK but self -deprecating nonetheless. Only in Britain would someone produce a book called "Crap Towns", listing the 50 worst places to live in the UK, and only in Britain would they quickly be forced to produce a sequel, "Crap Towns II" because they were inundated with mail from angry Brits complaining that their town wasn't on the original list!

I disagree, it was using hyperbole to exemplify what the poster considers not very logical or attractive habits within his own society. He made no such blanket statement as "America is bad", and as an American he is entitled to criticise his society. He used irony quite effectively in his over-the-top statements of US superiority, and his post demonstrated that he is confident enough in the value of his society, to send it up a little. None of that was even approaching stupidity.

    It is not the

Woohoo! USA! USA! USA! We're number 1,
hyperbole and mindless nationalistic praise for our own country - that I find humorous as well. It is the

we're gonna blow up the whole world!!!
comment that I find objectionable. After all that we have done to do the exact opposite.

Turn your mind off and READ:

First of all, I'm not partisan at all. I hate partisanship. Hell I don't even consider myself a liberal/conservative/what have you because my political mind changes every single day.

I love this country as much as you do man, I'm as much an American as you are. I don't criticize the U.S. as much as I support it. If you are restricting yourself from criticizing or questioning your own country, your own people, then you are being truly ignorant.

And what I said does NOT (READ THIS! THIS RIGHT HERE!!!!) it does NOT apply to ALL Americans. It doesn't even apply to MOST Americans, I was simply exaggerating the belief that the U.S. is the "best" and everyone else is an "enemy." I can understand that maybe where you live, you don't see people like that, but trust me buddy, living in Dallas, Texas, you get people like that every day of the week.

So there are two things I have actually proven:

1). You are incapable of questioning the very country you live in, which is like, the definition of ignorance
2). You really don't know what "sarcasm" means

I'm not trying to flame you here, I'm just trying to get you to read and understand my posts, because you clearly have not been doing so.

We are the same in this regard.

I wasn't questioning your love or patriotism for our country. I certainly criticize it. It may be perfect in conception, but not in practice - of course the founders knew this which is why the created it as they did.

I know this idea that America is always the best and I find your comment on it funny. I admit there is truth in your depiction of some Americans' attitude that everyone else is the "enemy", for instance let's nuke the middle east and be done, and I find it despicable and not funny at all. Clearly hyperbole didn't rub my funny bone.

What I find truly despicable is the attitude on the left that this is America's policy in the world. We have done so much to build the world to peace and they won't recognize it. I assumed you were coming from this perspective. I see now that you weren't so I apologize.

I don't believe you showed the first, but in this case I am guilty of the second.

    Now you're just being stubborn.

Actually I'm probably just as stubborn for trying to convince you that you are being ignorant and that you have contradicted yourself.

If you wanna be like that, we can take it to the basement, but its clear that a conversation that actually makes sense is going to be impossible with you.

    I'm done here.

Also ... hey look this is my 888th post!

Stubborn and ignorant? Yet, you can't produce an example and clearly demonstrate it? Blow me.
