    Re: Accents

Nice of you to overlook all the good we do in the world that would be sorely missed. What are you European or a leftist liberal punk?
Neither, but thanks for the radical assumptions, they always make people look ridiculous, its easier to debate people that way.

It says DFW on my info over there to the left. DFW stands for the Dallas-Forth Worth metroplex in the state of Texas, which is one of the 50 states in the United States.

Ok seriously, I was just saying that the guy is acting like the Americans who hate everything non-American. I'm not saying all are like this.

My point is that people need to have an open mind, and not just automatically resort to extremely patriotic ideals. Well wait a second, patriotism is fine, I love it, but when you're ignorant about it, well ... that's disgusting.

    Re: Accents

I voted Scottish, but I'm biased.

Since I was born and lived in Scotland until I was 6, I have a Scottish accent. It only really comes out around my parents or fellow Scots. Because it is not strong it no longer sounds like a Glasgow accent, but more like a Edinburgh or scottish upper class accent.

As for my Australian accent, it's pretty stock standard (by Australian standards).

See when I met some Australian friends in NYC last year, the only word you could use to describe them was "nice." When I think Australian I think, "damn, those guys are just plain cool."

    I'm sure you're a nice guy Australianlibertarian.

When they get together, they speak Chinese with each other. Normally this would not be a problem except it is done in the cubical right next to mine, so while I am trying to focus on my work, I got to listen to this bull**** tonal language being spoken next door. I went over there a few months back when they were all talking that crap and I told them that they were disturbing me with their speaking of chinese and that they should really practice their english, which is quite good by the way. They didn't listen. They are very inconsiderate.

I wonder why, you seem to have a way with people.

You realise English-speaking people speak their language in other countries too? Inconsideration is universal.

But my point is that Mandarin, for someone who understands it (more than hello and good bye), is a very nice Chinese dialect. It's why it's the official's language, and not something like Cantonese. That may be one person's opinion, but at least I come from the stand point of someone who speaks it (and other Chinese dialect) fluently.

Someone who's capable of poking fun at themselves? Relax a little. That post was tongue in cheek...somewhat...I think.

Why? Self deprecatory humour is always to be commended.
It simply means someone is confident enough in his society to send it up. It is a national pastime in the UK.

That's not self deprecatory humor, that's willful ignorance promoting a warped partisan political world-view. The "America is bad" view. I've no patience for such stupidity.
