See, it's like workers comp for workplace injuries.

In a way.

Or employer-provided healthcare.

Are those evil?

The employees waving machine guns around demanding the unearned benefit?

No?

Then they're not as evil as socialism.

Remember, socialism is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of millions of people in the 20th Century.

No, I understand. I might use the VA when I retire, if I need to. I understand that it's not a socialized system, but I was simply pointing out many, many posts ago that it's a government-run program, which it is.

It's a social program for a specific group of people (me included). Is it not?

Just like the elderly are eligible for Medicare.

Okay, you want to pretend you're incapable of understanding the difference between an earned benefit and unearned stolen wealth.

I'm not wasting any more time with this wilfully ignorant person.

I don't believe socialized medicine is evil......I believe it just does not work......

A little advice for veterans who want to use the VA when they get out........You better have a documented service connected disability otherwise there is a chance you won't be seen.......If you do have a SCD you will get head of the line priveleges........The VA hospitals are way over worked....I know this for a fact because I have a SCD, a herniated disc......

Exactly. We make sure and get our retirees to the VA early to get their disabilities documented before they are out. Most guys I know have gotten at least 30% for a myriad of things; like you, back injuries is what I see often.

Do you go to the VA? Or Fort Lewis/McChord? Just curious.

We have a Naval Hospital in Bremerton that I go to......I am on a medical program called Tricare Plus.....If you have a problem they can't handle they will farm you out to Medicare or send you to Madigan Army Hospital at Fort Lewis.......

On a side note.....My wife had Stage 3 Ovarian Cancer a few years ago and Madigan took care of the whole thing....I got a FYI bill in the mail for $240,000...I paid $110.00.......

Does the Tricare system and Medicare work pretty well together? Or are there regular gliches in coverage issues?

Same with my wife (cervical) after the birth of my first son...I paid like $80. Pretty good deal.

Ny wife was in the hospital for a week and I stayed at a Fisher House.....Those places are a gift from God.........

Socialized medicine is only as evil as the government that runs it. I support a public option, but I don't trust the Democrats with it and I don't like their healthcare proposal.

Then you better be against it, because the Dems are in power.

I am against what they currently have and anything they draft. I don't trust the Dems.

Yeah, so?

Shows how backwards we are compared to the rest of the industrialized world.
And much of their defense responsibilities are taken up by the US.

Why should they, there is a fool born in the US every minute willing to foot the bill for them.

Or shows how forward thinking we are, that we managed to avoid such without trying it.

I hear that a lot from some, that we're right and the rest of the world is wrong. I give that type of hubris all the consideration it deserves.

No.

The purpose of all this state-owned production is the servicing of an earned obligation.

FAIL. The purpose is quite irrelevant. Socialism is by definition when the state controls the means of production.

Stop making up your own definition of socialism.

Under your definition, if the state controlled the means of production and gave away the produced goods only to a select few, that's not socialism despite state control over the means of production.

Huh:

Socialism refers to the various theories of economic organization advocating either public or direct worker ownership and administration of the means of production and allocation of resources.

[ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialism[/ame]

The state owns the equipment. Employs the doctors. Controls procedures. That is public ownership and administration of the means of production and allocation of resources.

You are defining socialism as you see fit independent of what it actually is.

Just as I cannot be sure the rest of the world is wrong about this, how can you be sure the rest of the world is right?

As the saying goes, only time will tell.

Of course, it could be that BOTH methods work...

And which one to use is a matter of political decisions...

No one has a "right" to steal money from someone else to pay their doctor's bills.

That's how it's not a right.

No one has the right to steal money for any purpose. Including provinding for their defence.

wait for it....wait for it.....

WHY DO YOU HATE THE TROOPS!!!

I always wanted to say that......

An excuse that every 5 year old who has faced the horrors of broccoli used.

I'm sure it makes sense to other 5 year olds. Us grown ups know better.

Depends what your aim is. If it's to provide the best medical treatment on the planet, Free market is the way to go.

However, If you want to provide the best medical care in the world, UHC is the only option.

What's that mean, people only care if it can be priced in taxpayer dollars?

How about: We are right and if you think the rest of the world is better, leave?

I am still optimistic, that with some work, America's greatness can be restored.

Too late, it hasn't been great for hundreds of years.
