Is Avatar a subtle parody of environmentalist wackos?

Is Avatar actually a satire on environmentalists?

I saw it today, and needless to say it was utter crap aside from the special effects - easily the worst film I've seen since 2009. Basically it's just a high-budget action film with an environmentalist theme, which was so stupid that it almost sounded like Glenn Beck doing a parody of environmentalists.
(ex. The guys whine that humans don't respect life, but turn traitor and murder their fellow Marines in cold blood just to protect a magical tree which is basically the alien equivalent of the Internet).

But then I got to thinking. The film was produced by NewsCorp (Rupert Murdoch, Fox News), so what if the film was actually a very subtle parody of environmentalists. I mean as stupid as PETArds are, I find it hard to believe that they would make a film this stupid, or that NewsCorp even would release it - unless it was intended as a parody all along.

If so, then this might be the only redeeming value for this pile of no-talent garbage. Discuss.

:rofl:rofl

BTW, seen Last Samurai? Same basic plot but a much better film. Avatar should be nominated for a Razzie, not an Oscar.

According to what I've heard of it, yeah it is.

The Last Samurai is one of my favorite movies though.

Yeah, this story has been done a hundred times before, and much better. It's also "Dances with Wolves" and even "Ferngully."

To suddenly now to try to read something really political into it is silly. All Cameron really cared about was making money.

Somebody needs to sig this.

What we aren't seeing is Avatar 2 where the humans are now PO'd and return with overwhelming force and agent orange.

An even more recent movie comparison is "Dances with Wolves" - one of only a handful of Costner movies worth the admission, though the Pocahontas was dead on....

I haven't seen it. Someone here said it was going to be a big bust. ;)

No, it's worshipping at the altar of political correctness.

It's Little Big Man Dancing With Wolves on Water World.

It's BORING!

Ohmigod! That was one of the most boring movies ever, second only to Titanic. Doesn't James Cameron have any idea how to pace a film so it remains both interesting and fresh?

And, no, there was nothing subtle about Avatar. It even had Sigourny Weaver, when she was playing her PMS Bitch role in the beginning, smoking a cigarette just to make sure the audience knew that she was supposed to be an "Unpleasant Character". Any parody of any Leftist group perceived in that film was unintentional.

Don't forget Little Big Man.

Never saw "Ferngully".

Fortunately.

I totally agree with Titantic (and this film obviously), but I'll admit I liked Terminator 2.

I just have to say that it's pretty sad that this 3 hour time waster outdid Star Wars at the box office.

It was the CG special effects... that was it. That was the appeal. The story was an amalgam of a bunch of different movies that had a good story and Avatar simply chewed them up and barfed it all over the 3D screen.

Want to see a good movie? Watch Casablanca. No special effects, no color, no bull****. There's tons of good movies like One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest or The Godfather, Schindler's list or Rear Window when compared, make Avatar look as bad as a children's Saturday Pokemon cartoon. Visual stimulation only like Avatar is like a small portion of Chinese food. It tastes good but you're hungry again in 2 hours and the closer you look at the leftovers... the less you want another portion.

That was my exact sentiment. It was worth the $6 to see the effects, but the story itself was nothing exceptional -- it was, indeed, Dances with Wolves.

Cameron intended to entertain people and make money -- no more, no less. Nothing wrong with that at all.

Any idiot can see that the movie is allegorical to how the European settlers did the Native Americans. It could not be more heavy handed with it.

It had a bit of Mutiny on the bounty going on too.

That is kind of what I thought. If Native Americans were Rastafaris.

I'm still baffled by everyone thinking this was some Leftist anti-military propaganda movie. The so-called "villain" of the piece was one of the most believable, sympathetic characters-- and it's not like the alien savages were paragons of virtue, either.

i agree, except i'd prefer 3 hours of pokemon over having to watch avatar again

dude, you can say what you want about the themes in Avatar, but it was F***ing awesome. I saw it twice.

The way that the whole movie focused so much on transporting you somewhere else was great, even if the plot sucked.
