There are some children who never recieve any discipline at home.
    So what to do?
Kick him out and send him to the streets and then to prison?
Maybe that is where his patents should be sent, if not already there.
Or send him to a special school where he will recieve love and discipline??.
As a man can see, this is becomming an expensive proprosition...
The parents and teachers must be taught how to discipline somewhere the line..
BTW, do not even think that discipline is torture. This must be done by those who love and respect the children, not hate them.

We are all "inadequate", none of us are perfect, or even close.
The child misbevaves, he is called out.
He mis-behaves again and is paddled.
The paddling shows that the teacher cares,in the long term, the child prefers a teacher who cares..
Then the parents are informed by the teacher that evening....and we find out if the child has any parents..
Some do not...a reason for protective services...
As to "not working", this is most debatable, it is NOT a fact..
As I say discipline must be taught.

I got paddled for the first time in Kindergarten for throwing rocks. I ended up getting swats every year I was in school. Once you hit junior high or so, they would usually give you the option of either taking swats or detention. What kind of a pussy would take detention instead of 3 swats?

My point is that I don't think it works that well as a punishment. It works OK in elementary school, but once you hit 12 or so it kind of loses its effectiveness. I think the choice of whether you should paddle in school should be left up to the local school board, and then the individual parents whether they want their kid to be paddled or not. I am not sure what is wrong with that system.

There are some teachers out there I wouldn't want to have that kind of power so I am absolutely against it. I also think there are better techniques to punish children that don't include barbaric things.

I agree. For younger kids there are timeouts. Even older kids can be removed from the classroom they're disrupting. There are after school and Saturday detentions. For more extreme cases there are suspensions and expulsions.

I say a simple Paddling over the clothing as long as the parents authorize it up until half way through middle school.

So there you have it. They had spanking in the schools I attended. I have mixed feelings about it because I developed an erotic appreciation for it and won't date a man unless he's willing to spank me. True story.
So if the guy paddling you looked like the below picture then it would have been a punishment for you?

I think if I had a teacher that looked like this I would have been getting into trouble all the time.

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

If my kids do something bad enough that warrants them getting sent to the administrators office, then I should be called and I will handle it. My kids will pay the consequences of whatever it is they've done, but corporal punishment from a school official?

    Nope. Sorry.
It's mutually exclusive, you can spank them too when they get home if you like.
