As was pointed out before, he said to reduce, and work to eliminate. From what I can tell, the blame for the earmarks rests on the people who made the piece of legislation-all the "esteemed" men and women in the US Congress, from both sides of the aisle.

So I guess you give up then, good. Go waste someone else's time

Let me explain this to you as slowly, and simply as I can.

The President can only sign what Congress gives him to sign. And at the time, if he had vetoed it, and sent it back to Congress for a less earmarked version, you'd just be bashing him for not reacting fast enough, and passing a stim package the people of American needed.

Don't even waste my time denying that.

Re: Should the 2001/2003 GWB cuts be extended?

Unless the federal government, specifically congress, makes some very strict budgetary rules on spending growth, then I don't think we should send our dysfunctional congress another dime more than they currently receive as they will only waist it. However, if they returned to a more Clinton era fiscal policy (or better), and seriously started reforming entitlements, specifically Medicare, then most likely we will need to see additional revenue just to bring about surpluses in the next few years and reverse the growth in debt service as a percentage of outlays. Even in such an unlikely scenario, a return to Clinton era rates on the top bracket should be not take effect until unemployment dropped below 7%, and it should be coupled with an overall simplification of the tax code.

So, basically, since thats unlikely to occur, this is pretty much just an academic argument.

We aren't talking about the healthcare plan, we are talking about the stim package, with the earmarks in that. We were talking about how if Obama didn't pass it, and had taken the time to remove earmarks, he would have been criticised for abandoning the average American.

Are you playing stupid or something? Because I really don't know if you are trying to dodge the subject, or you actually got lost somewhere along the line...
