The Hog has a range of 695 nm.
Huh. So it does. I don't know where I got the idea that its range was so much larger. My bad.

F-22 hands down. The Russians wish they could make such a weapon.
They will as soon as they steal the design plans.

I personally feel the F-22 is best, because of who would be flying it, and the support the pilot would have, without even getting into the abilities of the plane itself.

EDIT: I've left out any fighters which have not yet actually flown.
It's Su-47 Berkut, and that plane hasn't even been deployed for combat yet, so there's no way to tell.

The Lightning II isn't an air superiority fighter so it probably doesn't belong on this list either.

Personally I like the MIG31 Foxhound. That thing is FAST!

The Hog's not really a dogfighter.

That's why I think it gets to be best.
Air to air it couldn't beat the rest I mentioned, But none of those can land on an aircraft carrier. Air to ground the Raptor has it beat. Maybe. But then again you can equip your whole airforce with F-4 F-16 for the cost of a wing of Raptors.

Not so far. And if I remember correctly the F-16s and Tornados are rather good at surpressing them.

The F-22 has higher survivability chances because of it's low observability to radar systems. Also F-22's can engage more targets and at greater distances, so you would not need as many F-22's as you would F-15's.
All well and good. But just like every branch of service you have to look at logistics.
If they spend half of their time on the ground, then thats the number of them reduced by half. And if Top Gun is to be believed you never leave your wing man. Which means a further 50% reduction as one half of the team is essentially doing the same thing as the other.
This greatly reduces the amount of airspace your wing can cover.
Put simply they are way too expensive to procure 9in enough numbers to keep operating 24/7.
