 you can't live in my county for less than almost double your top choice.

You needed an "over $500,000" option.

That was my idea. $50K isn't all that much money. Maybe in the 80s.

He is going to attempt to pertain this to taxation. Just watch;)

I have been trying for about a year, where I am at no one is wanting to hire a part time worker with a full time students schedule. Most places have been cutting back on hours and employees. I support working, but finding a job in this economy and with a student schedule is hard/impossible :( I am thankful for the little income I have through my cleaning job.

Aren't there any jobs at your university? Almost all student jobs will accommodate your class schedule.

There are two other polls that relate to this, but they give ridiculous figures.

Welcome to economic reality. What is your annual income (your individual income, not your family income), before taxes, but after your business expenses are deducted?

Vote in this poll. Then you may post your sources of income--employment, self-employment, retirement, capital gains, social security, alimony, rent, royalties, etc.

Why anyone on DP would want to reveal their income level publically, with a poll that shows individual choices, is beyond me.

I live in Kansas (cost of living isn't high here, really.), work as a public school employee - therefore I don't make squat compared to other states that have a much high COL index.

I marked the highest one because it is there!

1.7 Trillion.

I actually make no money, as I am a poor college student. My wife brings in the money right now. So I voted her income level. Once I get a job in my field, we should double that.

The income scales are too narrow.

I don't get the point of this poll...... 50K is supposed is supposed to make you rich? ..... I know people who make 80K and struggle to get by. But then again New York and LA are really expensive cities. I think wealth shouldn't be measured in how much you make but how much you have left at the end of the month. I could make 10K a month and have left $400 a month to save up. That doesn't make me rich.

I agree, and the Obama definition of "rich" is something like $250,000 a year after expenses.

My parents have noted that they fall within this range. I have no idea where they are specifically, though.

One of the tricks people use to make upper-middle-class people look like the richest people is using household income rather than personal income. The problem is, households with more members will have a higher household income than those with less members - thus, the "top 5% of households" is actually much more than the top 5% of individuals.

But then, personal income includes part-time workers and the like, so it's hard to measure that as well.

EDIT: It's also hard to measure how much retired people "earn".

I am amazed at how much personal info. people will put out online and have always thought asking someone how much they make as rude.

Depends on where you live. I know of places where you could live nice making that or less. Would you be rich? Nope but you would not be hurting unless you have money management issues. :2razz:

So millionaires and somebody making 51,000 are in the same category?

It is not how much you make, it's what you do with what you make. We currently make around the 50k mark, but we don't live in a shack, and I wouldn't consider ourselves lower class. We have nice furniture,a lovely home, 3 vehicles, kids in sports, and my husband and I have date nights 3-4x times a month. It is definitely all about money management. We've seen people make double that, who were looking for their next loan or credit card approval b/c they put themselves in debt, now needed help just with the basic neccesities!

It's funny when people make more than that, they automatically assume that if someone makes less than them, that they most not be able to enjoy nice things, or are struggling.

I agree, I mainly posted the roundabouts of our income to make a point. I look at it this way, we are all anonymous here and will most likey never meet in real life. I wouldn't discuss this with a room full of folks. Also within a months time, nobody will remember anyway:2wave:

I probably couldn't afford to live in Russel Simmon's dog house.
