What do you think of the new iPad?

Steve Jobs unveiled the iPad - Apple's first tablet PC - today. What did you think? Is there any chance you will buy one?

Here is Apple's first video on it:

I was disappointed that they partnered with AT&T again. I figured they would've learned their lesson after the iPhone, but apparently not. However, it was a lot cheaper than I was expecting.

I'm not sure why I would need a computer smaller than my laptop but larger than my phone...but I might buy one in a year or two, once the technology improves, the price comes down, and they cut AT&T loose.

I think I would be happier with a netbook mostly because I hate virtual keyboards.

It looks like a really souped up(not to mention big) iPod Touch. I don't think it'd catch on with families. Laptops have gotten to the point where something at $499 has way more capabilities than what Apple is offering.

Mac's always have had competitors that have PC's that are twice as good but the same (or lower) in price, yet that has never stopped Apply.

I disagree. Look at the MacAir. A complete dud by the standards Apple has set for itself. Why is this? What good is a laptop with reduced capabilities? I think Apple has shifted it's focus from computers people can actually use to setting trends with gadgets. That in my opinion has created a serious hole for them. The average home users doesn't just want to read e-mails and write documents. They also play games, listen to music and watch movies. Apple did great cornering the personal music device market but I'm not so sure what worked in that particular market will work with personal computers.

Apple hasn't filled this market since Microsoft bought Bungie.

Re: What do you think of the new iPad?

The tablet market is a dead end market. Apple's iBook store is yet another underdeveloped arm in its iTunes umbrella. They have been absolutely unable to corner the movie market, have done a likewise pitiful job with their television show market, and can't deliver that content well enough on their AppleTV. Now they want to expand into books. The iPad (really, the islate registrations/rumors were far more attractive for a name) is a jumbo iPod Touch with a 10 hour battery life and an unattractive data plan. For a book reader, it makes little sense, unless people have magically adapted to eyestrain central for their reading, and can stand to have a battery life of 10 hours at most.

Jack of all trades with mastery in almost nothing.

They tried in the mid 90s and the Pippin went dead in the water.

Not a chance in hell that I'll buy one of those. I can't stand Apple, I can't stand AT&T, and I already have a netbook that can do far more than that little gadget ever could.
