Is this an example of censorship?

Obviously, I will never post anything at the Political Forum again. But I want to hear you guys' opinions. Is this an example of censorship?

Does Debate Politics have a similar policy regarding posts that the moderators disagree with on ideological grounds?

I'm confused...

What in that link is being censored?

And/or what are you claiming is being censored?

Well hopefully THIS post gets moved to the Binky forum, even though you're bitching about the moderators on a different forum. ;)

Don't worry--I've been thrown out of better Bars---just move on.

Could you please add a 'what the hell are you talking about' option to the poll? Thanks.

Is it censorship.. why? Because they moved it to the Humor and Satire forum?

I don't understand. I would say if you've posted it more than once and they keep moving it, it's time for you to take a clue and move on.

You may call it censorship, but remember... that board is privately owned and they can do with it what they feel is right. You may not agree, but that's tough ****. If you want true freedom of speech, open your own board/forum and post to your hearts content.

When you are in someone else's 'house', you are subject to their rules as far as so-called censorship is concerned.

There is no such thing as censorship on a privately owned forum. So no, it's not censorship.

The owners and operators of a forum can do whatever the hell they want with your posts. It's the same as walking into a Wal-Mart or stepping into someone's home. Your right to speak doesn't override their property rights.

EDIT: Oops. TGND beat me to it.

No. Just as this forum cannot censor, because it is a private forum. They can do what they want. If you did not like it you could find another that is more to your liking. As is this case.

I've got lots of ties to autism and know more than the average bear about ASD, but the "post-autistic" thing just baffles me. It's either so deep I'm a drowning intellectual pigmy--or it's just silly and it belongs in a humor forum.

...

The definition of censorship does not change just because of where one posts/talks (public, or private place)... it is whether or not the censorship is acceptable or not that changes. I think that is a big difference (though important).

Well, that's nonsense.

OF COURSE there's censorship. Type the four letter word for "excrement" on this forum and see the happy little stars!

The fact is, it's privately owned and hence no Constitutional rule against censorship applies here.

Of course, in this case there was no elimination of speech--it was simply moved to a forum that disrespected the message. Since many of us don't understand the message, the action is neither censorship nor inappropriate.

Nope, its not a case of censorship (and even if it was, it wouldn't matter, its a private forum).

It may be against their rules or code of conduct for Mods, but I don't know the rules over there really.

Can't really tell you what we'd do over here cause I don't know the situation. for example, the mod seemed to indicate it was spam. If it really was spam we likely wouldn't move it to the humor forum...we'd delete it and probably ban or infract the person doing the spamming.

I didn't know you could discuss othe forums at DP.

I have never posted anything twice. Reiver denounces everything I post as "spam." Communists are incapable of reasoned arguments and always and immediately resort to name-calling.

If it is spam, then who am I spamming for? Wikipedia? The only link in my post is to a Wikipedia article. To be spam it would have to contain a link to a commercial site.

Reiver is not a moderator. The moderator who moved my post did not give me an infraction or PM me.

However, Reiver has special privileges denied to other discussants:

1) He routinely speaks of "eliminating" capitalists. While he has (as far as I know) avoided the word "kill," that is clearly what he is advocating. What else does it mean to eliminate a whole class of people if not to kill them? On most forums, advocating violence would get one banned.

2) Within minutes of my posting anything, Reiver denounces it as spam. This is true even when I post on other forums than the economics forum (the OP was on the education forum), which could not really happen so consistently if the moderators were not feeding him information on his critics.

FYI: Reiver used to be Scucca here. He attacked my very first post on Debate Politics almost two years ago and has hounded my ever since.

Not to be rude, but why should anyone care about your petty grievance with some random poster on another forum when A) we're only hearing your side of the story, and B) it isn't interesting enough to merit further investigation anyway?

To the mods, I would like to reiterate my suggestion that you "censor" this thread by moving it to the Basement. ;)

It isn't censorship, but might be abuse of powers by that moderator. Not to mention reivver or whatever sounded plain retarded.

Again, I think you [and others] are confusing censorship/not with acceptable or not. The definition [of censorship] does not change just because it is a private forum. :doh It is whether or not that censorship is acceptable (which in this case it may very well be since it is a private forum, BUT if the censoring does not conform to rules set forth by people running the forum, then questions could be raised)

Well, it all depends on how you define the word, of course. I tend to think of censorship as something a government does. I tend to think of it as a final straw in a sense.

I'm not sure a private board "censors" as much as they "edit."

If I write an article for a magazine and they say "This is too graphic for our readers" they are not censoring me; they are editing me. I can then go and try to find a more appropriate magazine for my work. I haven't really been "censored" because there are other outlets for my expression. I just have to find the right outlet.

I guess I just bristle when the word censorship is used too frequently, because it is a loaded word that implies that the censor is imposing their heavy-handed views on everyone else...

In the broadest sense, censorship is not limited to certain entities. That includes synonyms like editing, and the like. Editing is a SYNONYM - it doesn't necessarily make the editing not censorship.

You've got it backwards. The Post-Autistic Economics Network is our common enemy. I was defending the rights of autistic people to get published when my post was moved to the humor forum.

I have never been formally diagnosed with autism, but I am accused of it all the time because I wrote a book with the word "axiomatic" in the title. Also, I took a class in Non-Euclidean Geometry when I was in graduate school, in spite of having been told that this would preclude my ever publishing in an economics journal.

Here is another example of my being banned for mentioning the axiomatic method.

And here is [ame=http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=197876]yet another example[/ame] of my being banned for mentioning the axiomatic method.

No economics journal has ever assigned a paper I've written to a referee or even responded, so I have no direct evidence of censorship, though I think it is uncommon to not even get a rejection letter.
