Who was the best music artist out of the choices.

Who is the best Musician?

I just today discovered "Layla", so I voted for Clapton.

jimmy paige is the man, but i feel like lennon is more original. :2razz:

You have to define musician. If we are talking musical ability with instrumentation, then it would be either Clapton or Page. If you are talking about all around musicianship, including impact on the music industry and music itself, there is no competition: John Lennon.

Best music artist?

Probably boils down to Clapton or Elton John. Everything the Beatles did is overrated IMO. Not saying its bad, but I have listened to Beatles songs and I mostly come away uninspired. I think their popularity precedes their skill. Along with Elvis Presely, the beginning of the "pop" sensation. Clapton is probably more influential on artists like Page or Hendrix than is any Beatle, and those guys, while popular, were innovative musicians more so than the Beatles.

I threw Elton John in there because he is a tremendously skilled songwriter and great pianist. And I don't mean that in a gay way.

Those are just the choices off the list. My list would vary.

Marilyn Manson? Is that a joke?

I think you're confusing him with Bernie Taupin. ;)

I vote Clapton. He's the best improvisational musician on the list, and I believe he's accomplished in more styles in comparison to the others as well.

It was a close call between Elton John and Jimmy Page for musician, but Jagger has the most performing talent imo.

Well, I woke up Sunday mornin',
with no way to hold my head that didn't hurt,
And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad,
so I had one more for dessert,
Then I fumbled in my closet through my clothes,
and found my cleanest dirty shirt,
Then I washed my face and combed my hair,
and stumbled down the stairs to meet the day.

Tom Waits could only dream of writing anything half as good.

From the selection, I choose Clapton. Hendrix blew him away, but he's not on the list.

Not one brother on the list.

Yall racist!

Beatles...overrated?

This may be a problem.

You left off Neil Simon (Simon and Garfunkle) , Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull), David Crosby, Graham Nash, Steven Stills. Those fall into the era and genre of the others, for the most part.

Tom Waits wrote songs for Johnny Cash!!! Oh the irony!

Ehh, no. Kris Kristofferson wrote the above, Waits could only dream of being so lyrical. How about Gram Parsons?

Kristofferson is one of the best songwriters of all time. Plus he's a former Army Ranger as well as a Rhodes Scholar.

One of the few celebrities I have genuine respect and admiration for.

Also, If Cliff Burton was listed instead of James Hettfield, I'd have voted for him because he was the person who wrote this song (I'm using the orchestral version to illuminate the beauty of the composition).

Some good choices there, but you left out Jonas Hellborg, the Swedish bass player/composer. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nst3CQ4B7Gc"]YouTube- Hellborg, Lane, Sipe - Stellar Rays (Atlanta D&P - 19th Aug 1996)[/ame].

This trio is my favorite of all time.
