Avenger, you need to redo this entire thread. You missed libertarian and centrist. I don't know what the difference between moderate and centrist is but they are both liberal. I'd say less then 5% of people with those labels really are.
 
Moderate Conservative.

More conservative but have some liberal social views.

Moderate it not liberal. Moderate is more conservative than liberal.
 
My view on “Centrist” and “Moderate” were stated in another thread.

A pure “Moderate” would be someone that has little to no strong left or right leaning view points, with the majority of his views being relatively diluted/compromised views of one of the two sides. Generally a moderate is still likely to have a majority lean one way or another, but it’s a slight one with them rarely agreeing with the more concrete to extreme sides of that ideology. For example someone with a very mild, compromised view on gun laws and banishment, abortion, immigration, and taxes could be a moderate.

A “Centrist” is someone who has numerous strong left AND right leaning view points, with neither side truly being that much more abundant (I’d say if its more than a 60/40 split you’re just a [liberal/conservative] who has a few opposite tendancies). For example someone that believes that abortion should not be legal, everything but hunting rifles should be banned, agree’s with the War on Terror, and thinks we need to have higher taxes on the rich could very well be a “Centrist”

I will say in the years I’ve been on this forum that the vast majority of people I’ve seen with the “moderate”, “Independent”, or “centrist” tag have leaned left. That doesn’t mean there’s not ones that leaned right, there definitely have been. However anecdotally I’ve seen far far more than lean left who justify their “moderate” or “centrist” label by having one or two views that they have a mildly right wing view point on of which they almost never talk about. To me that’s not centrist or moderate, that’s liberal with a few odd views.

Yeah I think moderates lean to the left. I describe myself as centrist but I am against abortion {but don't believe in killing and bombing clinics], I am strongly against gun control of any kind {it is the right of every red blooded commie stompin american to own a chi com AK 47], I voted for obama but I do not support him any more, I am strongly for separation of chuch and state but I am strongly in favor of religious tolerance, I am strongly against the war but I strongly support the troops, nontheless, I am for legal pot but I think most other drugs should be banned especially the ones that are constantly abused, I despise limbaugh but don't think he should be banned from the air, I am pablum puking when it comes to social aid to the truly needy, I love my county but hate most incumbents especially who have been there for so long that they have turned into despots, I am for term limits, I am against illegal immigration and love sherrif joe arpiao [mexicans in their own country have committed genocide over native indians in mexico], I hate monopolies [I think that small businesses are the backbone of this county], I was always a hippie but I have always worked for a living and never lived off the public dole, I think cigarettes should be banned completely and I have been addicted to them my whole life.

I guess that would actually fit me, except that I lean harder to the right with the exception of a few issues. I lean hard right on taxes, immigration, death penalty, economic issues, etc. But I am prochoice and pro gay marriage.

I wonder if that really does make me a centrist or just a conservative with liberal views on two issues? LOL
 
I would say the latter...as it appears the vast majority of your views are right with only a few things on the left. I think a "centrist" is someone whose more split, 50/50, 60/40, etc.

It just means you're not a strict ideolog, and even then I think a lot of times WHY you feel a way about something matters too.

For example with libertarians and some of their social stances. They are what many consider "liberal", but they actually tend to come to those conclusion due to conservative principles taken to an extreme rather due to liberal philosophies typically.

Sometimes I get called both, by both, for the same stated opinion. Since I have no real interest in a 'political banner', I don't know if that makes me left, right, centrist, or something different.

I suppose the closest I can agree with is what's been called a 'political atheist'.

Who decided what is 'right' and what is 'left' anyway??

Now that I can agree with...my view on gay marriage, which was once very moderate, has become much more solid in favor of it after seeing conservative views on the matter taken to an undignified and immoral place.

My views on abortion come from understanding science coupled with my staunch belief in separation of church and state.
 
My ideological lean is libertarian, but I'm independent of party affiliation.

Mostly, I just use my brain to explain what my heart already knows.
 
By most people's standards in my world, I am a conservative. But here, on Debate Politics, I checked the moderate box. The label of conservative here takes on a whole new meaning. Perhaps, some day, when conservative means conservative again, I will change my lean from independant back to conservative. But right now, I'd rather not be identified as such here at DP.
 
I am all for gay marriage. I think Ronald Reagan's son is cute!:)
 
I'm libertarian, but some people dispute that label (only the Communists).
