I was curious about the make up of Debate Politics Forums.

Are there more liberals than conservatives?

Also I would appreciate who you think is the most conservative, liberal, liberaterian, cemtrost. etc

No personal insults, please..

Conservative here.

However there's been a few of these posts. None ever give a really great view of DP but all give at least a little view. May want to search posts in this forum, you'll likely find a few.

Also, feel free to check out THIS linke which shows you registered stats of people.

Okay but American is registered as very liberal.

I forget that you can pick more than one vote in case there are any sex fiends here.

Who is the most liberal or conservative?

The trouble with terms such as "most" liberal or conservative is that those who describe themselves as such are often anything but liberal or conservative in their approach to politics. They are simply rigidly dogmatic and extreme.

I consider myself a liberal. Some of the more extreme lefties call me a right winger. Similarly, there are conservatives who face challenges to their conservative cred from those on the extreme right.

If there is to be some sort of contest in regards to "most", it should be who most closely reflects the core values of the actual political philosophy involved rather than who is the most extreme.

neither a liberal nor a conservative be
Be respectful of others instead.
Try to hear and weigh what they see
Those who cannot soon will be dead.
For the poet and philosopher in me
And my dreams and thoughts to be read.

Who is the most liberal or conservative?

On which issue? Rather than pigeonhole people, you might be surprised to know that the ideological makeup of most people depends on which issue is being discussed at any particular point in time. My wife, for instance, is very Liberal, but sides with Conservatives on the illegal alien issue. I am Conservative, but could be called pro-choice, in that I have no problem with a state having legal abortions, if that is what it's constituents want. Also, if a state wants gay marriage, I have no problem with that either.

To sum it up, there is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to ideology. The ideology of just about anybody will depend on context and issues.

I consider myself left-of-center, but I'm also very pro-business and pro-trade.

The reason I consider myself independent is because my stances on issues are determined by my own independent thoughts and my own personal ideology. I am not a student of philosophy, political or otherwise. I am not inspired by world, national, state, or community leaders to adopt their philosophies. I do not watch or listen to the opinion shows of those who analyze the news. I believe that I have the capability to do the analysis and reach conclusions all on my own. It is my own ideology crafted from my own analysis, rather than influenced from without.

Peoples general opinions of my ideology may paint me as being right of center. A slight libertarian socially and domestically, and a hawk on foreign policy would be a a way to group me I suppose.

Well said!

I wonder what people think are the traits that make a liberal or conservative.?

I was not trying to pigeonhole people. I started this discussion to try to understand some of the bs that goes on here among people, including myself.

Thanks for you comment.:)

Interesting, thanks.

Out of curiosity what do you think fo the recent court decision concerning corporate contributions?:)

Interesting. You make a good point. If all people :)were the same it would be a boring world.

I'm appalled by it, even though I generally support the right of corporations to be involved in the political process. The reason it shocks me so much is because it's not merely a ruling on campaign finance...the Supreme Court actually overturned 100 years of precedent in corporate law, and has essentially said that corporations/unions/nonprofits have ALL of the rights of human beings. That is a dangerous path to walk down.

I vote for navy pride as being the most conservative. But, then i wonder if he is really a liberal in disguise, sort of like an agent provocateur.

Nope. NP is the real deal. He is probably an old man, like myself, who is set in his ways. I disagree with him on a lot of things, but viewpoints like his are part of the good mix we have here at DP.

I am an old man too. I have the mind of an 18 year old in a 67 year body.

I'm not so sure wheather or not I'd really wish to have he mind of an 18 year old now that I am in my dottage, but there are certainly other parts I wouldn't mind having.

American was so far to the right that he went through a time warp and became very liberal recently.

At least he has a great sense of humor.:)

I chose Conservative & Liberal & Moderate & Socialist & Commie pinko & Undecided & Other(independent+++++).

The word liberal is probably the most redundant word used by the media, today, especially the talk radio medium. Rush limbaugh, mike savage, david cunningham, neal bortz, sean hannity are just some of the most famous ones.

If the word liberal were banned they would be out of jobs..

The word is so over used that most liberals call themselves progressives instead of liberal because of talk radio.

The need a Godwin's law about liberals. It is totally worn out, Yawn.:doh
