If a woman had done what Scott Brown did...

Would a woman who posed nude win a senate seat?

Europe in general is less uptight about sex than America.
Poland included.

From what I hear East Europe is much different than West Europe. I could be wrong though, it's not like I've ever been there.

Aside from the Arab sections of the middle east, the entire world is less uptight about sex than us.

People say that all the time, but I just don't buy it.

Anyway, if a woman, now 50, had posed for a similar photo at 22, no, I don't think it would keep her from being elected. It might help. I'm sure this Cosmo spread helped Brown.

I've been to Warsaw and it's had its share of sinners.

And don't let me start speaking on the French.

I believe that Americans who travel abroad and see the world tend to be less uptight about sex than your average American.

Of course, the CANDIDATE wouldn't bring up the issue, and would denounce those who did... thats what interest groups are for.

Meh, I just can't see it getting much traction. Even if some interest group brought it up, they'd just make themselves look foolish rather than actually damaging the candidate.

For example, did you know that Sarah Palin had her first child a mere 8 months after she was married? You do the math on that one. But no one even raised the issue during the campaign despite the fact that she was running for Vice President of the United States. Not Obama, not Biden, not any liberal interest groups, not even any sleazy tabloids that I'm aware of.

I think posing nude would be similar. It would elicit a collective ho-hum from the voters (except the ones who were actually excited by it). While the moral values crowd might not approve of posing nude, I really can't imagine even the most conservative televangelist spending an inordinate amount of time worrying about what the candidate did a couple decades ago.

Does this woman look like Nancy Pelosi?

The reality is this:

If it was a Democrat woman, she'd be lauded in the media, if it was a Republican, she'd be called a slut by the media.

You all know this.

Isn't there already a female state legislator who is a former porn star?

Everyone, please imagine Janet Reno posing nude.
Now back to the discussion.

Everybody thought those silly bikini pictures of Palin were for real but tens of thousands of people still voted for her.

I'm just sayin.

You wanna see Sarah Palin's popularity grow even more?

If THIS IDIOT can win a Senate seat,....

anyone can.

I agree, although stealing an election isn't exactly winning it. ;)

I really don't think it would be that big a deal (but maybe that's just the contrarian in me). What political opponent would dare bring it up during an election? I think the American people are remarkably forgiving about personal indiscretions in the distant past.

Sadly Disagree. Look at the beating Bush, Clinton and Obama have taken over their past drug use. People use it as a tool to cast doubts about the person running. :(

You're right that their political opponents criticized Bush, B. Clinton, and Obama for their drug use. But an important thing to keep in mind: They all won.

Every time Hillary Clinton alluded to Obama's drug use during the campaign, she was roundly criticized for it and it didn't affect Obama at all. When Bill Shaheen brought it up (and speculated he might have sold drugs), he had to resign his campaign post.

Very doubtful, although Brown didn't technically pose nude, did he?

I guess there's a chance that a woman who did a tasteful non-nude playboy spread back in the 70's could get elected, albeit a small one.

It's also worth noting that Arnold got elected after showing a lot more than Brown did.

There were pictures of Arnold's pee pee? :rofl

I think it would partly depend on the region, I could see this sinking a candidate in the south. But on a national level and in most regions, a few tasteful nude shots twenty years ago wouldn't be much more than a footnote. We've elected known adulterers, drug users, and drunk drivers as President in recent years. As long as it as sufficiently "in the distant past" of the candidate, most voters would be willing to give them a pass.

It's okay as long as they didn't inhale.

Scott Brown, when he was 22, posed for Cosmo naked, but he is covering himself. Yet some want to say that is the same as posing in Playgirl or starring in a porn...that seems ridiculous.

If a woman running for Senate did the equivalent he did when she was young, it would definitely be in the news, and it would be a challenge to deal with, but I think she could overcome that nowadays.

So who do you want running your government, the diaper doper or a real athlete?

Brown is an experienced statesman, a junior senator, who is in a unique position right now to lead Harry Reid around the Senate chamber by his nose.
