I find that it can confuse some people, even when they think it's fun.

Sarcasm is what keeps me sane.

Of course sarcasm should be outlawed, we all thrive on really simple colorless test. Oh, lets outlaw humor and emotion too!

Hey let's pretend to be Vulcans! I always wanted bangs and pointed ears.

I am so glad to see political correctness evolving into thought orthodoxy.

But the confusion on the part of those who don't get it is the fun part...

Is this a sarcastic poll?

Sarcasm displays a certain twist on intelligence and can be a good, useful thing. It can be confusing however.

I dont see how you could effectively outlaw it though lol.

I voted yes sarcastically.

Sure.

Is this for English speaking persons only?

¿O, no sarcasmo?

Yeah, right.

Sarcasm is the tool of the debbil

So true. It is highly entertaining to make a comment in front of numerous people and having only one or two people laugh, and seeing the ones on the outside who did not get the joke fly through a predictable succession of facial expressions due to their exclusion. The follow up entertainment watching this develop is not to be underestimated. the sheer flurry of emotions from inquisitive, to confused, to realization that they are excluded and subsequent rationalization and dismissal with a shoulder shrug in the span of a second or 2 is just a delectable icing on the cake.

Then there is the instantaneous stratification of the social order that parallels all of this as well.

sarcasm is like heroin for those who think tangentially, since there is so much positive reinforcement from numerous angles occurring in such a short period of time.

No wonder there is a thread musing over whether it should be taboo, add it all up, and it starts to be abundantly clear, sarcasm should not only be taboo, but also be illegal.

1) It wreaks havok on the emotions of those who do not get it.

2) It disrupts social order

3) It delivers pleasure to a few at the expense of others

4) It possesses drug like reinforcement rewards.

5) It discriminates against those who do not grok.

6) WWJD?

What, should we all be required to function at the level of the lowest common denominator?

Hell no, sarcasm should not be outlawed.

This is the best thread ever. Just an awesome thread.

Yeah, this thread doesn't have any sarcasm in it. Because that would be so clever and ironic.

Yeah, sure. As if that's the easiest, most obvious joke in the world, that any idiot can figure it out. Sure. Whatever you say.

Of course not.
But civilized behavour should be appreciated , even rewarded.
This includes political campaigns.
Coatley's (sp?) negative ads may have backfired , which is good.
