it really depends by how much the winner wins by. automatic recounts probably occur when the vote margin is under say 1 percent. every state has it's own rules for recounts.

I say if the Democrats start pulling A Franken and begin manufacturing more votes than there are voters that the GOP should do the same thing in response.

It's possible that Coakley could get more votes than there are people in China.

They've started the machine... The Koakley Kamp... claiming voter irregularities. Link at bottom.

It's nice to see the Democrats, given enough rope to hang themselves royally, take every last nanometer to accomplish the task.

And downunder... Ted is cleaning out the bar.:flames:

I voted "none", but skip the JHS-level cyncism
of that the threadstarter struck onto the end
of the option.

I thnk Coakley will win 51% or more of the vote;
enough of a margin so that Brown will concede.

A conservative conceding when there is no political advantage in it? Who knows maybe things are different in Mass vs Minn

Bob Beckel, Democrat strategist slug worm on Fox, says Brown will win.

What political advantage is there to concession?

I know, and if you take another look at the Minnesota returns
and I am quite sure you will see the margin was well short of 51%.

In NC Elizabeth Dole conceded to Kay Hagan well before midnight.

No advantage or disadvantage to it; she was just whupped.

Wait, Elizabeth Dole is conservative, isn't she?

I don’t know how many recounts but it will most likely take as much time as it took senator Franken, after all that is the newest precedent. Isn’t it? :2wave:

State Attorney General just shot down Koakley's voter irregularity claim... her last best hope.
She's now hoping Brown will commit suicide.

We might have a lot of Boston articles over the next week. The Herald is the conservative newspaper, the Globe is the liberal newspaper owned by the NYT.

It's ridiculous this whole recount business. It should never come to that. :doh

Pics of high-tech stuff...

The higher the tech, the higher the tech of people who wish to mess with said tech.

True dat, and that is the sad fact of life. It's the life-long cycle of a dog chasing its tail.

But... how are recounts caused by tech - whose messing them up on purpose?
Oh, no...please don't tell me it's the parties, please don't tell me - ignorance is bliss :unsure13:

I wonder if it is even possible to design a tamper/idiot/fool-proof vote recording system?

I was thinking something along the lines of metal tokens, each assigned to a different candidate, and:
A device/box that only dispenses 1 token for each candidate.
Another device/box that only allows 1 token to be inserted for each race.
Tokens could be shaped/sized so that only tokens of a given size/shape (one design for each race in question) would be acceptable.

Problem is, no room in that idea for "write in" candidates.

And any mechanical device can be tampered with.

Positive point, however, I don't see how you could get much issue with "hanging chads".

sure it is. Use an accepted, existing system, and ammend the Constitution to make voter fraud a capital offense, with execution mandatory within 30 days conviction. Problem solved.

That just adds more and greater consequences to tampering with a system. It doesn't make it tamper proof.

I guess we,ll find out, looks like Brown is the new Ma.Senator elect.:2wave:

But it would I think serve the purpose of keeping the system untampered with. Especially after the first practical example.
