I donít know how many recounts but it will most likely take as much time as it took senator Franken, after all that is the newest precedent. Isnít it?
The haggardness of poverty is everywhere seen contrasted with the sleekness of wealth, the exhorted labor of some compensating for the idleness of others, wretched hovels by the side of stately colonnades, the rags of indigence blended with the ensigns of opulence; in a word, the most useless profusion in the midst of the most urgent wants.Jean-Baptiste Say

We might have a lot of Boston articles over the next week. The Herald is the conservative newspaper, the Globe is the liberal newspaper owned by the NYT.

We live in the 21st century where we got flying cars:

    laser-guided robotic vacuums:

    and projecting/virtual keyboards:

It's ridiculous this whole recount business. It should never come to that.

True dat, and that is the sad fact of life. It's the life-long cycle of a dog chasing its tail.

But... how are recounts caused by tech - whose messing them up on purpose?

I wonder if it is even possible to design a tamper/idiot/fool-proof vote recording system?

I was thinking something along the lines of metal tokens, each assigned to a different candidate, and:
A device/box that only dispenses 1 token for each candidate.
Another device/box that only allows 1 token to be inserted for each race.
Tokens could be shaped/sized so that only tokens of a given size/shape (one design for each race in question) would be acceptable.

Problem is, no room in that idea for "write in" candidates.

And any mechanical device can be tampered with.

Positive point, however, I don't see how you could get much issue with "hanging chads".

sure it is. Use an accepted, existing system, and ammend the Constitution to make voter fraud a capital offense, with execution mandatory within 30 days conviction. Problem solved.

That just adds more and greater consequences to tampering with a system. It doesn't make it tamper proof.
