No and I am not going to. I gave at the office. Hundreds of millions of dollars of our money has already been pledged to Haiti without my consent. My charity has been forced, therefore my voluntary giving will cease except to those whose perpetual poverty is not propped up by government.

Nope, the USS Carl Vinson is taking my share of compelled relief to Haiti.

FWIW, I would have to assume that donating via cell would be one of the more inefficient ways to donate money. By the time it goes through the hands of the cell company to whatever agency is running the program to whatever aid they're doling out, I would bet that a higher percentage is lost off the top than if you simply went to the websites of whatever organization you wanted to donate to.

I don't own a cell phone.

I already gave throught my tax dollars. 100 millions worth according to obama

Millions has gone from the public purse to Haiti. I've paid my fair share through taxes.

While I get what you're saying, I don't think it's right to deny help to those who need it just to make a political point. (i.e., that enough of my money has been stolen and used inappropriately)

I don't agree with my money being stolen from me. I don't agree with them planning on taking even MORE of my money from me. I don't agree with the personal rights and freedoms they are trying to violate. However, I will not deliberately withhold help from those in need just because my president is a ****tard.

IMO, there is no better time to show our charitable nature than when those against us are screaming about how voluntary charity is unreliable and worthless.

My husband's in the military and taking on extra workloads due to the shift in soldiers (since he can't deploy) - and I routinely give to a variety of charities, including the Red Cross and so forth.

You have given enough...Tell me where can I give in you name......

I think for me it is less of a political point and more of an economic reality. We get raped in taxes each year by every level of government. Donating to every charity that comes down the pike will result in us being charity cases ourselves.

exactly.. I am just finding out that my healthcare costs will be 40% more.......

The wife and I donated $10.00 via the cell phone to the Red Cross. It was painless, although times are hard right now. But as hard as times are for us they pale in comparison to those poor bastards.

I spend more on a few gallons of gas. I think I can afford to use the same amount to help someone in terrible need.

I hear ya. I've been unemployed for months. But I can still manage to forgo a bag of Doritos and a pepsi in order to help out people that are FAR, FAR worse off than I will likely ever be in my worst nightmare.

No, you are paying much less than that through your tax dollars. Dividing $100 million by the 300 million people in the population means that, on average, Americans are paying 33 cents worth of tax dollars for Haiti aid each. Now, I realize that you likely make a lot more money than most people... but assuming that you pay ten times more taxes than the average American, that means that you are contributing about $3.33. That's not a lot.

The government using your tax money generously is not a justifiable cop-out for not using your own money generously. That kind of mentality is what leads to the nanny-state.

EDIT: Hadn't seen the post where you said you already donated.

I prefer not to have my cell number fall into the hands of charities. I gave money to the American Red Cross at my bank.
