Do you trust banks

Hell no! ****ing take your money whenever they can. And then they participate in bad business and immoral practices and then take more of our money via bailouts to survive. Assholes!

Raise your hand if you don't use a bank or other similar type of financial institution.

What does that have to do with trusting banks? People are so imbedded in electronic monetary transactions that they have little other choice.

It aint like we are still trading beaver pelts. No offense to Angry Beaver.

Rather childish.
But, its sad but true. Also true that the bank customers do not read the small print and assume too much.
Banking is yet another area that needs reform badly.
No more two languages.
No more small print.
Only total openness and honesty will do for this age.
I think most small banks do practice this. And over the years they have improved..
The large banks, Bank of America for one, do not, IMO.
These huge institutions simply do not respect their customer.

So you utilize a financial institution to conduct purchasing transactions?

Yes I do. But, I could easily get by without them. My banking account is free. I know all their dirty tricks from experience. I use them like I would a rubber dummy.:)

I think even BANKERS don't trust banks... It's too bad the small town, local banks and credit unions get a bad rap due to the perfidious antics of the larger interstate/national banks.

I belong to a credit union, and haven't had any problems for 25 years.

There would be no way I could do the work I do without them.

That doesn't mean that I don't read every line of fine print, check my balances daily (at least) and monitor the news for banking changes.

I utilize them, but I watch them closely.

The Huffington Post has started a movement to have people take their money out of corporate (to big to die) banks and deposit it their local community bank

I love how their commercials say they want to be your friend but for God's sake don't make a mistake in your check book. I think the fee now is $43.00 per check at my bank. They used to have overdraft protection but got rid of it. Apparently it was cutting into their profit.

The real clincher for me was when I asked about overdraft protection the response was, "Oh we don't have that anymore, especially since you're a business." Oh sorry for being a small business -- you know -- the ones that pay most of the taxes and keep this country going? In other words. **** you.

Everybody does. And to be fair, it's not all banks. You can find good ones. It's that the really big ones, which own pretty much everything, are corrupted **** holes of greed and villainy. Run their business into a brickwall, then take our money as bailouts. All it did was to encourage them to do the same damned thing in the future now that they know their mistakes are covered by the tax payer.

Absolutely.

I trust banks to make bogus fees, to lie, the cheat, to steal, and in general work hardest at finding a way to take my money from me.

And let's not forget banking errors. I've been dealing with a series of them ever since losing my check card last month.

First, my branch never filed the paperwork to cancel my old card and issue a new one.

Then, the customer service rep on the phone promised to overnight a new card, but put in the request incorrectly. I sat waiting for two days to sign for something that never arrived.

Then, I learned that she put the card in as a new card instead of a replacement, so, more waiting for the new PIN.

Then, when I finally received a working card, it turns out that it's been attached to the wrong account, which is now overdrawn into triple digits. (They're working on fixing that, but I anticipate at least one more long phone call with customer service.)

I'd switch banks, but I'm afraid that they'll just buy the new one.

Some banks do a good job with customer service and others do not.

I'm currently using a larger branch bank and have been treated like gold by them.
I also use a couple internet banks and have never had a problem with them.

Most banks do have some shady business practices, especially those that stack debits and credits to bring in more overdraft fees.

I'm switching to a credit union because my branch is closing down here.

Banks are out to protect their own interests. As far as overdraft, I have a $3000 line of credit on my account that costs $20 a year. That way, I don't have to keep a close eye on things when I go to pay bills. I keep an eye on it by the automated phone system and will go in and transfer funds as needed right away, since I don't want to pay interest. I bank with Sterling Savings. All the tellers know me by name and they keep dog biscuits handy for dog customers.

As far as Wells Fargo, they bought out my home mortgage a couple or three years ago. They've been easy to deal with. I have automatic biweekly withdrawel from my bank account and they send me a monthly statement so I can send in extra to pay off more principle.

If you keep it simple, you'll be fine, unless there is truly a catastrophic economic meltdown that dismantles our entire economic system.

That's kind of an odd question.

Do you trust restaurants?
Do you trust stores?
Do you trust companies?
etc.

It should depend on the bank. To say that you trust or distrust all banks as a rule makes no sense.

Can people who generally hate banks so much please explain to me specifically what it is they do to elicit such hatred?

Trust them to do what? I trust that I'll be able to withdraw my money if I deposit it, and I trust that I'll never have to travel very far to find a convenient ATM with my bank. I trust that they'll cash my checks, won't steal my identity, and won't flat-out steal my money.

However, they will also implement hidden fees, process withdrawals before deposits, try to milk the customer for as much money as they can, and generally provide ****ty service. This is why I prefer credit unions.

This one is interesting, I have a buddy who doesn't trust restaurants. If he orders something and it's not what he wanted, he sends it back but declines to have them remake it. He claims they'll spit in his food since they'll take offense to him having sent it back. I don't particularly trust restaurants either, I'm sure I've eaten things I probably shouldn't have...especially from McDonalds and crap places like that.
