Just curious.
Personally, I'm guilty of very rarely reading posts that are longer than 2 paragraphs.
Am I the only one ?

Depends on how long and what the topic is. I have no problem reading even extremely long posts if it is in a subject that I am interested in. If it is a subject that I am mildly curious about then I will read until it becomes boring. If it's a subject that I don't care about then I won't read it at all.

One other thing that depends on keeping my attention is how it is written. If it's written like a 1st grade student wrote it then I might read 1 or 2 lines. If it is written with good writing skills but whats being said is stupid then again I will read 1 or 2 lines and then promptly ignore the post.

But one thing that I will always do regardless of any circumstances is read the whole of it if I am having a conversation with the individual that posted it and respond accordingly.

So if you had the option I would vote "other" as it is entirely up to the situation.

Thanks for your reply, I do the same.

You are correct about the "other" option and sorry thaht I didn't think about adding it.

Another thing, I usually don't read long posts that include too many sentences in bold. I get the feeling that the poster is trying to shove his/her ideas down everyone's throat and has no real intentions to debate.

It depends on the post. I do not mind reading a post that is more that three or four paragraphs long. I have seen some posts that are practically pages and I will either just skim over them or not read them, especially if it is crap in the conspiracy forum section. I have seen crap in the conspiracy forum section where a poster has posted a consecutive of 3 or more post and each post reaching the maximum character limit(which I think is 10,000).

Yes, Mira, you are the only one, and now we are all so very embarassed and humiliated... truly we may never get over this.

After all, we wrote all these long posts in the hopes you would read them fully, and the fact that you don't... well, it hurts us all, Mira. We just can't believe you would be so thoughtless and inconsiderate.

I just got off the phone with Redress and Chuck. They are both hysterical, weeping and crying, utterly inconsolable at this shocking revelation. Now see what you've done??

How could you be so crass, Mira? I am so ashamed of you.

(Just kiddin', of course)

Damn !!!! I'm running to burry my face under 3 metres of gravel right away. :3oops:

Depends on topic, format and poster. A long post that is one huge paragraph or single lines spaced out with no paragraphs, not going to bother. Long post on a topic I don't care about, I won't bother, but then again, I probably won't read any of the thread. Long post on a topic that interests me, by a poster I enjoy(Zyphlin is a good example of some one who posts novel lengths, but is worth the read), then sure.

Just curious.

I hate long posts, so I don't read them. If someone responds to one of my posts with a really long one, I arbitrarily pick a paragraph, zero in on the first thought, quote it and reply. Then I ignore the rest of the post and move on.

i didn't vote. missing choices.

sometimes you do, sometimes you don't.

i have a tendency not to read long post because they tend to rattle on, saying the same thing over and over again.

Depends on the topic, format and poster, but more often than not, if a post seems to drag on and on, I skip through it looking for anything worth reading and if I can't find anything, I skip it entirely.

Depends on the topic, the poster, and how the post is formatted.

I don't, please make your comments short but sweet.

It depends.

If I’m casually perusing a thread, with little intention of posting, I will probably not read all the long posts.

If I am intending to enter the discussion, I will probably try to read most if not all of the previous posts.

An exception would be in threads over 75-100 pages. If I post at all, it would probably be in response to the 1st post or a recent one...I don't have time to read 100+ pages of posts unless the topic really interests me.

I think my main problem is reading long posts with sentences in bold.

I don't listen to someone in real life who yells or who tries to shove his/her opinion down my throat. I don't see why I should accept the same on a public forum.

I have a feeling that those who write in bold have no intentions to debate. They are mainly here to make statements. Some call it propaganda.

I notice that conservatives tend to use boring screed to make an inane point.:doh

As I stated in This thread...

1. Yes

2. At times

3. Certain long posts

4. Almost without question

5. Must be skipped

6. For fear of a great headache

7. That will assult your head

8. As you try to read

9. Through the entire thing

10. Only

11. to

12. want

13. to

14. slam

15. your head

16. against a ****ing wall

17. because it takes 3 hours

18. to make a point

19. that is absolutely

20. retarded

However if its a long post by someone whose routinely proven to make substantive and interesting points and are willing to have an actual conversation rather than just a one sided attempt to speak talking points, insults, and rants then I'll tend to read it.

Those inbetween the ones that make me want to put my head through a wall and those I love to read I generally will skim, see if it appears interesting, and if it does read the whole thing.

i really, really, really hate long long post's they drive me insane, and by drive me insane i mean really drive me insane, so insane i just give up reading the, and go yell at a budgerigar, epsecially posts that repeat and repeat and repeat and repeat, and go abolutely no where, ot are off topic, i yell this at the budgerigar quite regulaly, but budgies are forgiving birds, and quite pretty, my budgie is blue and she just yells back at me, she's got a fowl mouth on her, i also hate post with bad puns, bad grammer is annoyingly very often, and bad speling, anb im not talkjin just typos, i mene genooine bad speeling, like it is been typd bi a for year old or cafeen, but long post are really annoying for been repetitive especially when they just say the same thing over and over again and never seem to reach a point, and when you think that they're finaly nearing a conclusion.

I rarely read a long post. I come here for entertainment and don't enjoy reading essays by unpublished authors. If I want to read an opinion piece, I'll find a better source than strangers on a discussion site.

Occasionally, someone has a very well thought out longer post that is discernable from the first paragraph as worth reading. Of course, if there are no paragraphs in a post, then forget it. Also, some personal anecdotes are sometimes worth reading.

I'll read long posts in a topic that I'm active in. What I don't normally do is jump into a thread that is already a few pages long by the time I notice it.

I can't keep up my attention ever since I quit smoking. No long posts and articles till I get some nicotine in me!
