I can't speak for anyone else, but personally I enjoy being called a honky. It makes me feel all fuzzy inside.

Actually, I kind of liked it back when it first came to be used.:) I think it's a great slang word.

Yes, I did. I saw this:

If my interpretation was incorrect, I apologize. Sincerely.

But, on its face, your comment is hard to interpret any other way: you are saying that the indignation felt by other races when confronted by racial slurs is "laughable" in comparison to your (warranted) indignation when confronted by the word "nigger."

Why would your insult be any more painful than a similar insult would be to another unfairly maligned minority?

Because whether or not you want to admit it, calling a white person a redneck or honky is more socially acceptable and less offensive than calling a black person a nigger.

IT already said enough with the personal attacks. Next person gets another infraction and a threadban.

Of course, I understand that.

No you don't.

He said that other groups' offensive terms were "laughable."

If you did understand you would have seen the whole statement in context and not just the first sentence...

"I mean "red neck" "chink" "wet back" etc for the other races are just laughable. Makes them no less derogatory, but again they don't have the same sting."

Now if you take into account I am speaking abour ME personally, you would have at the time understood.

To his perception, given what he has been exposed to in his life, perhaps they are. I'm not real familiar with the racism that Asians have to deal with. There aren't enough Native Americans around to make enough noise about the racism they deal with. I don't know any gypsies. I have heard in the past that it is disrespectful to refer to Jewish people as "Jews", I guess it's like "Japs" upset some Japanese. I just try to not be boorish or obnoxious when it comes to race. It's counterproductive. It's like when people don't give the same respect to the Church of Scientology as they do to Christianity.

Calling a white person a honky/cracker just isn't the same.

Very good, then. I understand your position.

Can you understand that other people might feel "the same sting" when confronted with similar racial slurs? And if so, how can any such slur be acceptable - whether or not it carries the same sting for you?

And here we go again. You still don't get it. :doh

Listen, I don't need a white person explaining to me (a black man) about racism, or how it feels in a condescending manor. OK?

I am a "white" woman and have felt "the sting" of ethnic slurs my entire life. Don't think you have some sort of lock on such things because you're black.

or how it feels in a condescending manor. OK?

I know how it feels. However, I apologize if you took my questions as condescension - that certainly was not my intent.

Got called "red neck" one to many times? Maybe a "honky?"

Don't think you have some sort of lock on such things because you're black.

Oh no you didn't.

I tell you what. As soon as someone crosses the street rather than walk near you because they are afraid you are going to mug them. Or a little girl no more than 5 yells get of my yard nigger, you come see me.

I know how it feels.

No you don't.

However, I apologize if you took my questions as condescension - that certainly was not my intent.

Apology accepted.

Dog why did you not find "mulatto" as offensive as I did, especially when it was used by an obvious racist here?

I don't find the term offensive. I don't find the word Negro offensive either.

I mean I am technically a Mulatto. So why would I be offended by it? It's not derogatory in and of itself. It means nothing more than a person of mixed black and white heritage.

It did make me angry when people tried to use that term to say Obama was not black. We all know in this country what you look like is what you are.

I mean their was plenty to attack Obama about without making his ethnic background an issue.

If it is a joke why do you do it behind closed doors?

Uhh for the same reason that people don't tell dirty jokes at church? Because others might be offended?

What exactly about being derogatory about others do you find funny?

Calling Jews Jews is offensive? What else does one call them? Maybe it depends on the individuals...all the Jews I know refer to themselves as Jews. I've never even thought about it as an offensive term.

I agree with this. If someone called me a cracker, depending on the context I'd either think it was funny, discomforting, or mildly offensive. But it certainly wouldn't have the same impact on me that calling a black person a nigger would have on them.

I find the term mixed race covers that for me, in my mind "Mulatto" has connotations of slavery?

Never heard that one. I don't think the term has anything to do with slavery. I am no expert on slave terms though, lol.

it was used as a descriptive term in Auction adverts and in wanted posters for runaway slaves, of course they did not need to use the N word in either situation, just what technical mix the N was.

"Jew" is not offensive. Someone is taking the piss out of IT.

They also used the word "Negro" and it is not really a slave term. It is merely a descriptive term for someone of the Negro race. "Nigger" on the other hand is truly a slave term. It was even from it's inception a derogatory term.

I am just going off basic history here, so you can take it with a grain of slat.

What else would you call someone of mixed heritage without it sounding bad? Lets face it, Mulatto sounds much better than say "half breed."

why would they use Negro as a discriptive in slave auction?.

Mixed race is the most sensitive, what grading do you give to half caste, red skin, red indian.

I presume the word Mulatto is to technicaly identify the % of black and white pigment in the construction of said human being, dont you find the need for people to use the term for those reasons offensive?
