I have heard in the past that it is disrespectful to refer to Jewish people as "Jews", I guess it's like "Japs" upset some Japanese. I just try to not be boorish or obnoxious when it comes to race. It's counterproductive. It's like when people don't give the same respect to the Church of Scientology as they do to Christianity.
Calling Jews Jews is offensive? What else does one call them? Maybe it depends on the individuals...all the Jews I know refer to themselves as Jews. I've never even thought about it as an offensive term.

I agree with this. If someone called me a cracker, depending on the context I'd either think it was funny, discomforting, or mildly offensive. But it certainly wouldn't have the same impact on me that calling a black person a nigger would have on them.

I mean I am technically a Mulatto. So why would I be offended by it? It's not derogatory in and of itself. It means nothing more than a person of mixed black and white heritage.

It did make me angry when people tried to use that term to say Obama was not black. We all know in this country what you look like is what you are.

I mean their was plenty to attack Obama about without making his ethnic background an issue.
I find the term mixed race covers that for me, in my mind "Mulatto" has connotations of slavery?

Never heard that one. I don't think the term has anything to do with slavery. I am no expert on slave terms though, lol.

it was used as a descriptive term in Auction adverts and in wanted posters for runaway slaves, of course they did not need to use the N word in either situation, just what technical mix the N was.

Stupid internet won't let me link to a video of the Always Sunny episode I want, so you should all just go watch "The Gang Goes Jihad."
People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

They also used the word "Negro" and it is not really a slave term. It is merely a descriptive term for someone of the Negro race. "Nigger" on the other hand is truly a slave term. It was even from it's inception a derogatory term.

I am just going off basic history here, so you can take it with a grain of slat.

What else would you call someone of mixed heritage without it sounding bad? Lets face it, Mulatto sounds much better than say "half breed."

why would they use Negro as a discriptive in slave auction?.

Mixed race is the most sensitive, what grading do you give to half caste, red skin, red indian.

I presume the word Mulatto is to technicaly identify the % of black and white pigment in the construction of said human being, dont you find the need for people to use the term for those reasons offensive?
