It says "esp. for political purposes", not "for political purposes". Note the difference.

Why do people make polls with such limited choices?

"other" should always be a choice.

and what is your opinion on whaling
I think the real question should be "is right to try to stop whalers through harassment or extreme tactics?" I think a lot of people would resort to extreme measures if there was a something that they totally feel that the government is totally incompetent in dealing with or simply refuses to deal with(I think whaling is legal in Japan,so they are not going to stop it). Me personally I think these protesters are bunch of loons trying to stop people from hunting, so basically the loons are whining over a cheeseburger and think that if the whalers felt threatened then they should defend themselves against those loons.

But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

no, they are trying to stop people from hunting whales under the guise of research. wrong tactics, though.

So if they were hunting whales just for food the protesters wouldn't be trying to stop them?

    Re: Who's at fault?

I think in the day and age where we pollute oceans by destroying coral reefs and dumping toxic waste, it is important to protect the few exotics animals we have left. I have no problem with a few genetically indistinct cows being eaten but there are certain animals which are so historically and culturally precious that we should protect them. I doubt many Americans would agree with bald eagles being hunted to anywhere near extinction. Why? It is our national symbol. We should extend the same courtesy to other animals we can't really afford to have on the extinction list.
