Is Glenn Beck a reporter or an entertainer

Should Glenn Beck be treated as a legitimate reporter or as an entertainer?

When did he make this claim?

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ToWJIRZz8k"]YouTube- FOX NEWS ADMITS~FEMA CAMPS!!! with GLENN BECK!!![/ame]

"I can't debunk them."

- Enough said.

Words that I would use to describe Glen Beck

Propagandist
Demagogue
Pamphleteer (if the meaning could be expanded to include spoken as well as written word)

He is not in the business of reporting, since he is in the business of shaping public opinion, and he is not in the business of entertaining for the same reason.

Thats hardly an endorsement.

Either there is a place where these camps exist or they simply don't. You can't debunk something and then say that you can not debunk it. They aren't some supernatural entity who's existence is questionable and appears to only some.

 He said he couldn't debunk it.....Then debunked it after he found evidence.

Then my statement stands. He made a claim. Was proven wrong. And retracted.

He admitted on the view that he's not a reporter or a journalist or a newscaster but rather a commentator and a comedian.

He also admitted he doesn't do research. Which makes any claims of doing 'research' to debunk things quite suspicious.

How many concentration have you visited lately? Because according to Glenn Beck that is what we're facing. You know. The left. Eugenics. The Final Solution. No. Glenn Beck gets exactly what he deserves.

He's covered substantive issues with perfect accuracy before and the left, in staying true to their play book, did one of the following things:

a. Downplayed it.
b. Dismissed it.
c. Ignored it.
d. Made excuses for it.
e. Blamed Bush for it.

So, if you weigh Beck's hyperbole against the left's bile, things come out looking pretty even.

Anyway, it's not like the left is listening to reasoned critiques of their policy initiatives. Those, too, are often dismissed or ignored, so I'm forced to remain silent in regards to people like Beck.

I'd also like to add that I do not watch Glenn Beck, as I generally cannot stand his show. I just find the left's seething hatred of him (and Sarah Palin) quite telling. Anyone who dares to speak out forcefully against liberal policies is instantly smothered in vitriol.

You know, pretty much the only Glenn Beck I've ever watched has been in the YouTube videos posted by his haters, on this site -- and if that's the most "damning" stuff he does, then you're totally right.

Who is "the left"? I find broad generalisations like this are counterproductive if you want to have a reasoned discourse.

In this forum? Anybody who doesn't like Ron Paul (ie. Freedom) or stands to the left of Navy. So pretty much all of depending on who you're talking to.

Shouldn't you have included choices like "commentator," and "analyst"? Why such restrictive labels? (As though the answer weren't obvious.)

Generally speaking, liberals and Democrats.

Okkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy, so we're questioning the validity of Beck, asking if he's just an entertainer, and you cite The Daily Show, as a source?

Which side of Alice's looking glass are we on, I wonder.

You bring up Ron Paul more than us libertarians do.

My current shrink encourages me to talk about people I dislike instead of bottling it all up inside.

Thanks, so... "Anyway, it's not like the left is listening to reasoned critiques of their policy initiatives."? :rofl

Why are you rolling on the floor laughing? Did you look in the mirror?

;)

No, it's funny that you refuse to concede the point and continue to pretend your hyperbole is valid.
Why are you posting here, if "the left" does not listen?
Btw, you have as yet to make a "reasoned critiques of their policy initiatives." lol

I don't understand the point of this thread. No one is claiming that Glenn Beck is a journalist. We all know he is an entertainer / political commentator, but this, in no way, precludes him from being informative or reporting on substantive issues.

I don't understand all the outrage people display over him. He's no worse than any of the other people on TV, and at least he isn't pretending to be a journalist like some people are...

People don't like when people belittle the opposing party in an incredibly immature manner. This comes to mind. http://www.debatepolitics.com/us-pa...ee-display-over-limbaugh-hospitalization.html
