I personally think that it is a good idea, but I doubt the pilots would think so as carrying a firearm would bring a lot of extra responsibility. Just imagine a drunk on the plane starts something and begins threatening people. Would a member of the flight crew not be obligated to bring out the gun if the flight attendants couldn't easily restrain him?

    Absolutely!

Most airline pilots have military experience so, they are familiar, or were at one time, with firearms. They are extremely responsible. Train them and establish a solid set of SOPs and future hijackers would have to totally rethink their plans. Also, keep in mind that all airline cockpit doors are now reinforced and locked.

    Let's roll!

I doubt a few bullet holes are going to cause the plane to depressurize. Also, I've never heard of ceramic bullets. How is their stopping power? Ceramic material can be strong but I wonder about shrapnel If it shatters.

No, pilots are responsible for flying the plane and keeping it stable. Having armed security on planes is what air marshals are for and I support having one on every plane in international airspace.

I think all the seats should be converted to electric chairs, with the exception of First Class of course!

    Finally caught someone's attention

This program already exists and pilots are already carrying handguns; and have been since Bush's first term.

This thread baffles me. I'm not sure why people want to allow pilots to do something they're already allowed to do.
