There is an old saying, and it's true. If you give up your liberty for safety, soon you will have none. I too have witnessed these bully boys and their antics. They seem to love to pick out old gray haired people. They singled me out because I looked to fit for an old guy. Their words, too. Then the guy in Detroit said I didn't talk like I was from Detroit. Hell, he didn't even sound like he was American, more like the mideast. Being from the south, I don't talk like I'm from Detroit. Duh!

Being in the military I got used to bully boys (well actually they were usually minorities or women with a new found power) so I let it go in one ear and out the other. However there are ways to deal with them. Ask for their name (It's usually get's their attention), and when you get back home send a terse letter to their supervisor. I've gotten people fired this way before in another capacity. Typically if they have an attitude you're not the only one and if complaints form a pattern there may be repercussions. If enough people complain we can get rid of the low performing turds.

Janet Napolitano is quoted as saying the recent incident where the Nigerian attempted to blow up a plane, proof that they system works as it should. To me this is an ultimate example of spin, and insults my intelligence.

I mean even though the man was warned about, and refused a student visa in the U.K., he was issued a visa for the U.S., got bomb material past security, and if not for a civilian may have succeed in downing a plane. If this proves the system works I've got some ocean front property to sell you in my home state of Indiana.

What do you think?

The system works as it should? What system was she talking about?

The one where a guy was able to get an explosive device on an airplane, only to have it fizzle and have a civilian jump on it and him in an attempt to make sure it wasn't going to do any damage?

That system??

Yeah.. sure. It's working alright.

From what I read no air marshal was aboard, and the only thing that kept this guy from blowing up the plane was that the device malfunctioned and blew up in his face. You're probably getting this story mixed up with another one involving a Nigerian man who locked himself in the bathroom. This prompted complaints from other passengers, probably because they couldn't use the bathroom, not because they thought the man was acting suspiciously.

I see, I think early reports had said something about air marshals. But whatever, my point still stands. Ain't nothing going to be 100%. Well less of course you wanted to just abolish the commercial travel.

I know somebody will get miffed and ping me for this, but Napolitano probably didn't want to profile a black man since our President is black. Instead, she spent time profiling white conservative, anti-abortion, Christian gun owners as potential terrorists. I wonder how many resources were spent trying to discover why we white conservatives owned guns and were buying ammo and for what nefarious purposes?
No security system will ever work well when racism is introdued...This also applies to ignorance..
If this bastard was denied a visa in England, we should have listened and taken the same action..
Why was a VISA granted?

Well they can start by paying the security people a decent wage.

It's not like they get paid the same as some one flipping burgers at McD's.

Probably because of what you and I have both alluded to, the appearance of racism. Political correctness has already gotten troops killed in Afghanistan. How many Americans now must die in terrorst attacks because of political correctness?

the Prime directive, is to not offend. ---which I find to be ridicules.

Yeah, that's the definition of liberalism. We're in the "touchy-feely area, take a pony to lunch" bunch.

Well, next time you go through the screeners, and they tell you to remove your shoes, remove all your clothes. Tell them you have nothing to hide.

Too late. I didn't see this post of yours until I already went through security. I'm presently waiting for my flight to come in. BTW, no pat downs for the wife and I, but a young lady said she was patted down. I didn't ask her if she was patted down by a male or female. If it was a male perhaps is a fringe benefit of working for TSA.

From what I have seen it appears to be poor communication between agencies, which troubles me much more than political correctness. After all the money that has been spent, if agencies are still not communicating, another incident is imminent. Hopefully this latest incident was a wake up call.

That was what the new Department of Homeland Security was supposed to fix. I know one thing. I have done a lot of source selecltions for this department, and they seem to have limiltless funds, well at least when Bush was President. I haven't seen any come across my desk since Obama was elected. From what I saw at DHS, those people weren't too bright. If there was any security function, it was being contracted out to the lowest bidder. No, I don't work for DHS but have done consulting work for them.

Right you are! Better that we be dead than violate the politically correct police. It is the principle that counts. We are expendable.

I can assure you political correctness would go out the window if we had a terrible incident or another 911. Unfortunately it could possibly end up a knee jerk reaction which would so extreme it wouldn't make sense.
