Here's a poll for you.

Meanwhile, a bill has passed the House, making it illegal for stations and networks to "pump up the volume" on commercials. At first blush, this seems like a good law to pass, since is pisses me off to no end to get my ears literally blown off by loud commercials, when I am attempting to watch a TV show. However, don't you think there are more important things our Congresscritters could be doing in Washington? Namely, attempt to get spending under control?

I need a poll with ticky boxes, as I can't decide between "pass" and "tie them down and make them listen to 'Crazy Train'".

Even though I agree that congress should be spending their time on figuring out how to get our spending under control and other more important subjects, I'm VERY glad I won't have to turn my tv up and down for the commercials since the asshats like to have the shows really low and the commercials really high. :x

Man, I'm all for that one. I keep the remote in my hand, just to turn down the volume on commercials.----Back in the stone age, when cable first came out, the selling point was "No commercials" Seems they forgot that part.

The economy would improve if Congress spent more time on stuff like this.

Probably cost four million dollars to turn that knob marked "volume"

I'm in favor of it though from my experience it is only the broadcast channels and those related to them that have the problem of being loud. Of course now since they general service the Senior Citizens you have to get their attention and sell that Pollodent (TM)

Congresspeople have to get their kicks somehow, right? ;)

I keep an eye pealed for good deals on "Depends"

What am I supposed to do when I hear a loud commercial or a telephone solicitor ignores the "do not call" list? Call the police? Stop wasting time making all these unnecessary laws. Push the mute button or fast forward the commercials or don't watch television.

Doesn't the cable company have control of the volume? That's who I've been mad at all these years. I would like to see all volume averaged on all stations. Certainly something that can be done in this day and age. It drives me crazy!

I always mute my t.v. during the commercials.

Name one bill that congress has passed in last 20 yrs that has improved your life more than this anti-loud commerical law will.......................

This is congress's finest moment.

Who authored this law? Make him or her president,,,,,my god, this is genius.

This... isn't something the Government should have anything to do with. Good Lord we're turning into a pathetic bunch of morons.

You report the solicitor for harassment, I believe.

But now we can be pathetic morons listening to the likes of Sara Palin without having to reach for the flipper to mute the commercials.

I don't have TV, but I'm in favor of the bill. It seems fair to the consumer to not be blasted with a higher volume on ads. That seems to be an unscrupulous business practice to me. I also agree with the third option.

Here's one. :comp:

Though I probably would have been against it at the time, some things the government does actually work out.

The basis is that the public owns the airwaves, and thus our proxies in congress can regulate how they are used.

I hate the loud commercials too, but I don't think this is a job for the federal government. If people have a problem with the commercials they should just hit the mute button on their remote like I do :) Come to think of it, I don't get many commercials either since I watch the premium movie channels and get my news from online.

Yes. It's for the common good that ads are regulated. Advertisers can't make any false claim, nor should they be able to blast their ads louder than the shows they advertise. It's not something that helps the TV and radio industry, but it's better if the rule comes from the Feds, since the media is pressured to cater to the advertisers who fund their programming.

Report it to the FCC. The network carrying the commercial will likely receive a hefty fine

I would rather abolish the FCC and keep the loud commercials.

The FCC performs many important tasks. For example, they regulate the radio spectrum. Abolishing the FCC would not be a good thing

I agree. We need some oversight of the airways, within reason. This is not an unreasonable law.
