I haven't used yahoo in several years. For most of their span, they've been a directory of sites, technically, rather than a search engine, and I found that their results were not as inclusive as google's. I also found the big list of paid-for listings at the top of the results kind of annoying.

I've read that Bing is powering yahoo's search now, though, so, results will probably be better.

I would like to complain about the poll options in this poll. Where is the option "google serves a worldwide customer base, so avoiding religious imagery is in it's best interest as a business"? Where is an option for "I think the term 'politically correct' is overused to bitch about things I just don't like"? Where is the option "I want the 30 seconds I wasted reading the OP back"?

    Dear Google,

It bothers me that people are bothered by your choice of a Christmas logo for your search engine home page.

It is odd the same people typically complaining about perceived political correctness are the same ones who push people and entities to this state of correctness because they decide to bitch and make issues out of mundane things.

Re: Is Google trying to be Politically Correct ?

Well, I changed my search engine. I know some of you think it's silly, but to me it's important. I liked Google's previous policy better, where they acknowledged various religious days. I know I can't change their decision, but I can change the search engine I use.

Yahoo doesn't do anything special on their search page, but at least I won't be irritated by blase' images that remind me of what I view as a cultural loss and decay in the Western World.

I'm glad I brought the subject up, even though some seem to feel that should make me an object of ridicule and derision. God Bless you all, Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year.

Did you know that Vague, the owner of this site, did not wish any one here a merry christmas? Based on that, you should change message boards too.

It appears that you and I disagree regarding this and that you really don't understand where I'm coming from. There's no point in discussing it further with you, is there?

I'm a little aghast at the insistence on Merry Christmas, honestly. What if the person offering the greeting is not Christian? What if they are devout Christians who object to the commercialization of Christmas, and prefer not to sully their holy day with associations with a place of commerce?

Also, aren't pleasantries a voluntary thing? Am I entitled to someone saying "how are you?" or telling me to have a nice day? Forced wishes are meaningless ones.

I don't think anyone truly is offended by "Merry Christmas" and I don't think anyone should be offended by the lack of that greeting, either.
Seriously... a coworker of mine is a strict Jehovah's Witness, are people going to get insulted if he doesn't wish them a merry Christmas? As I see it, it's more insulting to wish him a merry Christmas. I work in a toy store, this season I was wishing people whatever holiday it actually was... Eid, Hannukah, Solstace, whatever. It seemed more appropriate.
The Makeout Hobo is real, and does indeed travel around the country in his van and make out with ladies... If you meet the Makeout Hobo, it is customary to greet him with a shot of whiskey and a high five (if you are a dude) or passionate makeouts (if you are a lady).

I don't know. Nothing as far as I can tell, but maybe they're popular icons in some other part of the world.

It seems more and more prevalent that whenever the site changes its front page logo, it looks less and less like the "oogle." Pretty soon its just gonna be a "G" followed by some random pictures.
