Do they?

If your argument against abortion is biological (not spiritual), meaning that embryos/fetuses deserve a "right to life" because they are biologically alive (as is sperm), then why do animals not also deserve a right to life, as biologically they meet all the same criteria, if not moreso. Discuss.
"Human" life is the determiner here, unless you want to argue that humans and tapeworms have the same value.

Everything God created deserve a right to life!

Excluding enlightened self-interest, why shouldn't they? Do aardvarks and badgers have the same value? How about carp and sharks? You only think humans are special because you happen to be one.

Why don't they?

On (at least) one level,... they do.

As does a pre-birth child, blue whale, amoeba and a sparrow... have an equal right to each their own lives.

Would you like for me to explain?

Animals are not on the same playing field as human beings. We've evolved past their basic level of existance for a particular reason.

I fully support the proper hunting and eating of animal - certain kinds I won't touch and prefer others didn't, either, but I don't consider it barbaric or any type of 'sin' or 'moral tangle'

What 'level' are we on that they are not? And what 'reason' is this?

That still doesn't put us at the top of the food chain...

Agree'd

Of course not, we're right in the middle of it with everything else . . . it's one big circle.

However - we exist on a different level of thought, communication and awareness, etc etc etc - which makes us more advanced.

Thus - my dogs live in the back yard and not in my house.

But animals teach us things, and we teach them. For example, some robotics scientists have created lobster-like robots to better navigate and explore the ocean depths, and we in turn have taught cats how to poop using our toilets.

Oh please do. I'm eager to hear how anything in the world has a 'right' to life that's not granted by a governing body.

Ask him what pre-birth is.

I am curious how one assesses the thought and awareness of anything they are unable to communicate with.

Probably 'pre-existence', eh? ;)

Considering that according to Chuz, birth happens at conception, one can't help wonder just what pre-birth is.

Ask him what pre-birth is.

PRE-BIRTH

–noun 1.the period, usually six months, preceding a child's birth.
–adjective 2.pertaining to or occurring during such a period.

Origin:
pre- + birth

pre-
pref.
    1. Earlier; before; prior to: prehistoric.
    2. Preparatory; preliminary: premedical.
    3. In advance: prepay.
Birth

Medical Dictionary

Main Entry: 1birth
Pronunciation: 'b&rth
Function: noun
often attributive

1 : the emergence of a new individual from the body of its parent
2 : the act or process of bringing forth young from the womb

A thinking person might ask themself,... "how can a child emerge from their mother,... if there is no child present in the first place?"

I digress.

Really? I thought birth happened the moment of conception;)

A person is "born" at the moment of their conception.

That's when they are actually "created" or "brought into existence."

"Birth" delivering a baby from the mother's womb,...is just a change of address for the child who already has been living for about 9 months.

So what is it. Either birth happens at conception or after.

Animals don't have rights they cannot conceive. It'd be like giving cavemen nuclear fission... Or a copy of Hobbes' Leviathan.

They conceive the right to their territory, food, and young and will sometimes fight to the death to defend these. Just because we can't understand them doesn't mean they aren't making statements.

A newborn can't conceive the concept of a 'right' either. Hell, neither can many adults.

The word "birth" has two meanings.

Conception is the moment the new individual "comes into existence" (that's one definition)

"Birth" is the moment that said (new) individual is delivered from it's mother. (that's two)

No enlarged text necessary.

That is great. But you can only be born once. So which one is it. Either you are born at conception. Or you're born during child birth.

or you're Born again when you accept Jesus and start paying your 10% tithe. :D
