How was the hunting mateWe have one of our most sacred ceremonies beginning with the new year. It's called the "blue jay" ceremony and is a time of renewal and prayer for self, family, friends, Tribe, and the world. We pray, sing, dance and fast for 4 nights, the 4th night culminates in a feast. During those nights there are other ceremonies, the new babies born get their "real" names, others get a "new" name, there are healing ceremonies for those with serious illnesses.
There are also jump dances going on at various people's homes for similar reasons.
I spent my youth in the Catholic Church, mainly so I could argue with the priests and nuns. I left all that behind for other pursuits. It wasn't really my religion, I was a baby when I was baptized and had no choice. I'm not a Catholic, but participate occasionally out of respect to those in my family or community who still participate.
So, none of the choices really "fit"...... I used to work during Christmas so I could take off the two days before New Years and the two days after the 4th of the new year to recuperate.
