Do you think that Stephen Colbert is genuinely conservative even though he plays the role of a sarcastic conservative?

In my university I see a lot of conservative kids who think he should be the new face of the GOP; they truly think that.

[sarcasm]I agree, he should be the face of the GOP.[/sarcasm]

They must not watch his show....

In reality, I think he's a comedian first. The greatest opportunity for him was in the form of a fake news broadcaster, so he took it. I don't think he's on a mission to attack republicans or conservatism, as is John Stewart. He simply knows his audience and knows how to entertain.

I do not know or care. I do not watch his show.

I find very little of it funny. At all. Even when he's making fun of conservatives. However the opening for show is pretty creative.

Of course he isn't conservative. Colbert (when he's not in character mode) has said he's a Democrat. He endorsed Kerry in 2004, and kinda endorsed Obama in 2008.

Colbert is a gag. Some don't get the gag but of course that's because they're the brunt of the gag.

lol......aren't university kids supposed to be a little brighter than that?

If I had to venture a guess, I would say he's probably liberal. But his show isn't as good as The Daily Show.

Well its in Texas, so ... that's pretty self-explanatory.

The TV persona is "conservative" the individual is not. Its just his shtick, and a good platform for him to play devils advocate and to turn this advocacy into a satirical parody with ease.

What is funny is how many just do not realize the caricature of a conservative that his character is, as exemplified by some of your peers.

Ya gotta give George Bush 43 some credit. That roast Colbert did on him was great and Bush 43 laughed along.

Do you understand the concept of satire?

I don't care

To answer your question, yes, I love satire, why do you ask?

What I find hilarious is how people are managing to lead this all back to me somehow.

Hell, I can't believe this topic is still active.

I was just thinking that if you understood satire and the people who perform it, then I don't think you'd ask the question in the first place. Unless you were truly naive to it or you were trolling.

Stephen Colbert is nothing more than a comedic parody on conservatives with the intent of making them look as stupid as he can possibly make them look. (As if Palin, Coulter and Limbaugh wasn't doing that already.)

As if Palin, Coulter and Limbaugh wasn't (was not) doing that already?

I think you might have wanted:

Speaking of making someone look stupid...

I ask it because I see people who actually believe Colbert is conservative here in Texas :)doh). So I thought I would ask my friends & pals at good ol' DP.

I never troll, never, its pointless.

Texas. Ooooohhhh. That explains a lot...

Not always pointless. It's a good way to lure out idiots and liars. One must know how to 'troll good' in order to counter-troll well.

trolling is a art.
