While we can't go completely open boarders style, we absolutely should NEVER suspend the full of immigration. We need immigration, it's good for a country. Helps with innovation, adds to the base. There are too many benefits from it to do away with it. Like I said, you can't go open boarders. There are reasonable regulations to install and use, but let's not go overboard.

Stopping immigration altogether is not a good idea. Let's see, we have a couple of choices:

Have a legal process for immigration in which the candidate applies, has a background check, shows he is employable and that there is a place for him in this country, then is extended an invitation. That way, we'd get people who would be an asset to our society.

    or the current choice:

Anyone who demonstrates the ability to sneak past the Border Patrol and the willingness to live clandestinely and to work for substandard wages can enter this country. That way, we'll have a pool of low cost labor that will add enough to the bottom line that we can afford to pay off politicians to be sure that nothing effective is done to stop illegal immigration.

Clearly, we have chosen option 2.

Another poll, another maybe. Thanks for at least having that type option.

Legal immigration should only be suspended in a drastic emergency. It's good for the country. However, in such a drastic emergency, of course you should suspend it for the course of the emergency.

Immigration needs and overhaul like poster nr2 says. I believe the right answer is to tighten immigration, especially such ridiculous parts as the "family waiver" things. We also need to start deporting useless foreigners, foreign criminals, and we need to send them back to their countries, where they can do a lot more good than suck around on our welfare states and goodwill.

It also needs to be a possibility to permanently ban from our territory neutralized and second/third generation criminal foreigners.

I voted no. The benefits of immigration outweigh the risks. Immigration has been the lifeblood of North American societies. Our infrastructure was built by them, and don't forget that we ourselves are immigrants to this continent.

I disagree, I myself am not an immigrant to the continent. I was born here and my grandmother was full Cherokee.

So, your ancestors immigrated via the land bridge from Asia, probably chasing mammoth.

I'll bet they didn't have papers, either.

No. Limited immigration sure. We should only allow law abiding and hard working people into our country and at set numbers. Rif Raf not welcome.

Yes is the emotional and necessary response.
This area needs reform, like so many other areas.
In the olden days, the criminals were barred, right?
    And that worked, right?
    Ha!
And, how do you determine who is "rif-raf" and who is not.
Vito Corelone, as a 12 year old, what was he??

I would consider rif-raf as someone with:

    -A criminal record.

-History of unemployment when employment opprotunuties were available if they recieved any goverment assistance.

-Has children that are not supported.

And a child, unless shown to be problematic, should be allowed to immigrate with the parent(s).
