A test question about the Democratic Party

This is from a study guide from my final exam - but I thought it would be interesting to see what everyone thinks.
    (the answer is #5)

A screaming comes across the sky.
It has happened before, but there is nothing to compare it to now.

The only group that is applicable is Southerners....but that has been for decades...not just something recent.

....Not sure how Democrats could have lost any real ground with blacks. It is the same false claim over and over again. How the Republicans are 'gaining' minorities. Reality is Republicans are fighting to keep whatever minority vote they still have and that is the way it has been since their switch in the 60s that targeted formerly Democrat havens in the South. Tell your teacher his study guide is wrong and he needs to pick up a book on race relations & politics in America. Even with Union members. Not sure how much ground they could have lost. Most union enclaves are still heavily Democrat. The rust belt still votes mostly Democrat. So not sure how they could have 'lost ground' And considering most Catholics in this country live in California or New England(both heavily Democrat) as opposed to the primarily Baptist south - I'm still not sure how they 'lost ground'.

Re: A test question about the Democratic Party

I was going to say #1, until I slowed down and read all the answers. I wasn't actually sure about union members, but I think that's true. The Dems have definitely lost ground with both Catholics and Southerners though, as long as the period of time you're talking about is decades (40+ years, at least).

The started losing Catholics after Roe v. Wade; Southerners after the Civil Rights Act, and I think (?) union members after Reagan.

    I said #5 - which is answers #1, #2, and #3.

I would say that strict believing Catholics and Southerners should be the only answer, but that choice wasn't given. Yet, I know some farmers where I live, who think like I do but always vote Democrat because their parents and grandparents were all Democrats. A lot has to do with all the help Democrats have been known to extend to farmers.

Republicans will gain that support when minorities become better educated, but there is the double-edged sword. The dems talk of equal opportunities for black students, but in truth, they would prefer they stay dummed down so they will continue to vote Democrat.

Education has nothing to do with it. It has to do with historical trends. Republicans decided to target poor and disgruntled southern whites after the 1960s civil rights act. It's called the Southern strategy. Why don't you pick up a book on it? It'll help you out tons.
