Why is Obama being so Hawkish now?

I'm curious why Obama is being so hawkish. Any opinions? As usual, I'll offer some possibilities or you can offer your own theory.

I'm very skeptical of most politicians, and I think most of them claim to hold positions purely for their own benefit, so I think he's probably trying to garner some support from the right. His poll numbers are dropping, and he needs any kind of support he can get.

I don't trust politicians either, but the one thing I hoped from Obama was for him to get us out of these expensive and deadly overseas military escapades. I don't understand this.

He emphasized the importance of Afghanistan before he was ever elected. One of his campaign promises was to increase the troop level in Afghanistan. In February he sent 2 more brigades of troops to Afghanistan. Why do you think he is only now being hawkish?

No, I certainly didn't trust Obama, and I agree, the Chicago political machine is utterly corrupt, and Obama is a product of that entity. I did hope that he sincerely wanted to bring the troops home.

You're right, politicians are scum and will do whatever it takes to maintain the illusion that they are in power, when in fact they are puppets of the people behind the scenes.

It's really hard to say for sure. He had to say those things to get the support of his party. He may have thought that he could actually do it. I didn't vote for him, but I don't support the wars- I don't believe they are winnable because we don't have the stomach for war anymore, and I don't think a "war or terror" is even realistic with regular troops. The war didn't have anything to do with my not voting for him. His lack of character did. That may not be the best reason to vote for a politician, but it's the most important issue to me.

I don't think you can say "Suddenly" hawkish. This was one of the things he campaigned on. I'm personally not happy with his plans, but I'm not surprised it was to be expected.

Aaaaaand here comes MyOwnDrum again with one of his trademark stupid polls. There is no "now", Obama campaigned on sending more troops to Afghanistan and made a speech in March affirming that he would do just that. The fact that he almost didn't decide on a surge, and that he took 3 months to make up his mind, speaks more about him than the choice he ultimately made.

I say other. Its easy as hell to spew anti-war nonsense to toss the salad of anti-war morons for votes but once he was in the presidential office reality hit him.

Another election crook, that uses the media to get elected without any values aside from being best at being elected.
