Theodore Roosevelt

Try reading what this guy got up to both as a child and a young man and after being elected President.
He was in all probability responsible for most of the Asian conflicts of 2o th and 21st century's.

Jimmy Carter.

Good intentioned man, horrible POTUS.

It's so funny how the far-righers have been trained by their masters, Beck and and Hannity to think FDR was a bad president... That dark-red cool aid must shrink your brain.

Ask them to articulate why, however...?

1. Internment of AMERICAN citizens for nothing more then their ethnicity.

2. Huge socialist programs

3. More then 2 terms, he was full of himself and disrespected the precedent set by a true leader George Washington.

If he hadnt died I am sure this arrogant son of a bitch would run for another term. Thanks for Divine intervention.

How did George W. Bush NOT get into this poll?

1...2...3...

That's it?

Huge "socialist" programs -- you have been drinking the dark-red kool aide.

Historians categorized Roosevelt's program as relief, recovery and reform.

When he took office:
**a quarter of the workforce was unemployed
**Farm prices had fallen by 60%
**Industrial production had fallen by more than half
**Two million were homeless
**massive crime waves

Some economists/historians argue how effective individual programs were, but he is considered to be one of our greatest presidents. Only now, as the far-right nutters attempt to rewrite history, do people begin to lose sight of what FDR accomplished as a leader and human being.

It's sad that people have no concept of that level of poverty and despair and what it took to bring the country back. My parents lived through it and they both remembered FDR as most Americans do.

Re: Internment camps -- it's an ugly bit of U.S. history, like rendition.

How can Jimmy Carter be voted worst president?

I'm afraid I'm not sufficiently in tune with US politics and 20th century history to feel comfy voting on this. I would just like to say that you'd probably find that a poll taken in Europe (like your US posters should care!) would show FDR, JFK and Bill Clinton as the top 3, probably in that order. Bottom three would probably be Bush Jr. (if that's allowed), Nixon and Reagan. Again, in that order - Bush certainly being thought of as worst ever.

Would any European poster disagree?

Now then, Worst European leader of the 20th Century anyone? I've just had an idea for a thread.

Is there any doubt who the worst 20th century president was. Its the peanut farmer and america hater Jimmy "Commie" Carter. Friend of Terrorist and Despots around the world.

Well at least he did not trade arms with Iran

Or make a deal with Iran to hold American hostages for an additional month, until the day he took the oath, to make him look good. THAT would be looked down on even by Republicans... I'm sure.

Then again, all Americans knew FDR was a bad president before Beck ever got near a microphone.

Funny what happens when people think for themselves, isn't it?
