Well yes, their economy is 'catching up' they are developing extremely quickly. It's still going to be a while before they can bomb any surface on the planet to earn co-governance though.

So, you think amounts of bombs and bomb capability is the best way to measure governing ability?

No wonder global majority has turned against America.

Okay, so let's review:

1) This entire (rather spirited) dsicussion was sparked not by a news story, but by a post on a government-approved discussion forum in China.

How do we know it's in China? The domain name. How do we know it's government-approved? It's in China.

2) The United States doesn't govern the world, so it can't co-govern it with anybody.

3) China owns the United States, and the purchase price was roughly half a trillion Dollars of Treasuries, which they purchased with the proceeds from all the cheap crap they've sold us.

Ta-da.

They are catching up incredibly fast, scarily fast. The build cars that are almost just as good as American/Japanese/European ones, but they dont pass European/American/Japanese regulations.
20 years ago, it was unthinkable that China could even build decent cars, or decent looking ones. India built a car powered by air by the way, I am sure China have done a lot of similar things that arent common knowledge.

Well Japan was speedily catching up to us until the 1990s

"Does China have the capabilities to co-govern the world with the USA?"

I'm assuming that this question is metaphorical?

As far as I'm concerned they can have the job completely. Let some other country have to deal with the crap that the US does just because it is considered to be top dog.

Imagine China who is growing up in the 21st century with the same economic intensity per person as Japan.

:wow:

Japans economy is incredibly high tech, it "grew up" later than the US economy which is far more diverse and much less high tech. The Japanese nation is also half the population of the US, on a tiny patch of land on an Island. Incomparible with China, Europe and the US.

You guys had to defend you freedom with wars in foreign countries. China will spend its money wisely and won't be that power crazy and won't be dragged into wars.

im sure countries in the middle east, africa and south east asia would agree with you whole heartedly

No, I never implied it meant that our governance was necessarily good. It happens to be the way power exists on our planet whether you like it or not. (though it does not necessarily have to be that way in the future, hopefully)

Maybe some day China will be a super power, but not today.

The US does not want to govern the world, just guide it a little.

The U.S. sold out a long time ago. The USSR was the main concern. Once capitalism won, anyone who endorsed it became a partner. China is communist in sociopolitical policy, but economically it's as capitalist as they come. That means the U.S. is their devoted ally.

All this talk about how our governments don't support Chinese oppression is just a bunch of crappy platitudes. Our governments don't intrinsically care about human rights when it comes down to it. In the current arrangement, money talks louder than humanity. China serves our capitalism, so their people can rot for all we care.

Gotta have all those lobbiests from multiple roads I suppose.

Yeah no doubt it will spend it's money "wisely". But considering how they treat their people I doubt that they would do any better than the US. In fact they'd probably do worse.

Power hungry? Again, look to how China's government treats its people.

Won't be dragged into wars? The US tried to be neutral once upon a time. Look where it got us. (WWI, WWII)

I dont understad what you mean about 'treat its people'. As china gets richer it can afford to treat them well. As classes gain upward mobility they also gain rights.

edit: (I am not denying the alleged mistreatment of the chinese people in its past)

Alleged? (10 char limit)

Two words will do: "imposing tarrifs"

We should impose some amount of tariffs. They use their banks to monkey with our currency, they have the benefit of near slave labor, they have the benefit of extremely lax environmental laws; we can compensate for that. There's nothing wrong with it.

The greatest monkey currency speculator is Warren Buffet. Seek his help pls.

Buffett is for sure an ass, but he's not a sovereign country. He doesn't affect the system as much as China can do by them constantly using their banks. Furthermore, before China joins the 1st world nations, it should take care of its own. Do what's right for their people and their people's prosperity. As for our side, while free trade is nice and we should work towards those means, free trade will have to be free from purposeful manipulation of the market. If one side does such, it's not unreasonable for the other side to protect themselves.

Contradiction. Signatory of many FTAs but practices protectionism.
