    I drive a CUV that gets ~33 and (surprise) a T/A that gets ~10.5

Trans Ams kick ass! Got an old S-10 Blazer, will drive it till it DIES, good acceleration, Damn Good low end torque, still runs well, it won't die, it's paid for...........and the best thing is, the cute smug looks I get from neo-hippy environmentalists and the ensuing smile and middle finger I give 'em for their indignant superiority complexes behind the wheels of their death traps, uh, I mean compact cars/hybrids.
Neither side in an argument can find the truth when both make an absolute claim on it.

The T/A has a strong 403 (that's 6.6L for you environazis) that lumps and lopes and blurps and rumbles and just reeks of gas at idle, as a large-cammed, richly carburated automobile should. I'll bet one full shot from the accelerator pump blasts more gas into the engine than a Prissy-us uses on a mile of interstate.

GM got it right with the Q-jet. While in stock form, it is FAR too lean (necessary to appease the EPA trolls), but once you get rid of all that handicapping, it is a very, very good all-around carb.

Just bought a station wagon, a Saturn L-series. Have absolutely no clue what sort of MPG it gets-- I've had it for three days and the gas tank hasn't gotten below F yet.

I got the new VW Rabbit. It burns 30 mpg on the highway, but I mostly drive in the city so it says I get 22 mpg. I figure that's about right. It has 170 hp, but since it is pretty light it is good enough get up and go. It ain't no sports car. If I wanted one of those I would drop $30,000 and get a Nissan 350Z.

I looked at one of the VW diesels.
The price of diesel was high enough over the price of gas that the gas car was cheaper.

A 1990 GMC cargo van with 350 V8 and towing package.

Oh, gee....I didn't buy a new car and subject myself to ridiculously high punitive California vehicle taxes and sales taxes. What a shame.

    2008 Mazda 3 2.0L

8.5L/100km which imperially is 28 mpg from what I'm told.

Oh and also: Americans have got it so cheap! $30K for a (new/near new) 350Z? Thats a bargain! Over here, prices are about $70K US I think (exchange rate is nearly equal atm).

That's because you hate the environment, clean air, clean water, baby seals, polar bears -and- America.
