Yeah, cause everything hinges on abortion and gay marriage with them.

Pretty much. I yearn for a return to a Republican party that is not controlled by the evangelical right wing.

Abortion is the only thing I'm socially conservative on....What gays do in their own homes are of no concern to me.

The religious right do not have nearly as much power as you think....How else do you think McCain won the nomination?

How long have you been around?

I've said this for ages.

As hardcore leftist as I am, I actually respect true Goldwater conservatives who are not obsessed with the GOP social agenda.

I've even said that I would consider voting for Romney if he returned to his previous self before he felt the need to try to sway the right-wing base and adopt their social agenda.
I've been around since my join date. I'm simply stating that it would be nice if instead of that which you are normally known for, and you know I will be glad to illustrate what I am talking about, you could be so even keeled and rational the rest of the time. Normally you are ascribing to and making comments that I can only call irrational bilge, and you know and it and seem to revel in it.

self reliance is one thing....supporting a platform that encourages corporate welfare is quite another.

Tell ya what. You get the democrats to stop encouraging social welfare, and I'll get the Republicans to stop encouraging corporate welfare. Either way it goes, we will all be better off.:)

No you haven't. You've been here for 16 days .... after a hiatus that began last Feb 1.

I started out (around 17-18 years old) as a conservative. I lived in a third world country (and this will be very short and simple:) and I "sort of blamed the people themselves." After sept 11th I bandwagoned to conservatism, was for the iraq war, etc. It was difficult going to an international school with those politics behind me, and lots of internationalist english, australian, and kiwi teachers. They attempted to explain to me how I was wrong in many respects, but I didn't take heed. I wouldn't listen when they tried to explain what the Israeli lobby was on Sept 12, 2001.

Eventually I cam back to the states and was in some contact with domestic conservatives. I became a radical liberal very fast, and was even moreso after Bush's re-election.

Since then studying international relations has turned me into a mix of conservative and liberal values. I am a traditional conservative in that I believe that the state as an entity is the result of a history of evolution, is a being in itself embodied by the spirit under which it was founded... and... i lost my train of thought... but at this point tends to be more rational than most of the people it governs. I have faith in the selected professionals that run the country, in that they are educated and trained... unless of course theyre appointed for ideological beliefs  like under the previous administration. I believe that domestic surveillance (with oversight) is necessary as we have no choice but to establish a mild police state. This also means that I am a secret government loving communist.

I understand that neo-liberalism doesn't work for every nation.
I believe in more liberal drug laws, now.
I believe that everyones labor has value and a floor should be placed to keep wages liveable.
I know that a degree of socialization can mean a higher standard of living.
I hate privatisation.
I think guns should be illegal other than for recreation.
I think people who fear a world government are politically insane.
I think alot of the speech that goes on by beck and limbaugh fuels an environment of political insanity through misinformation and is dangerous speech, it is, of course, not dangerous to the two party state or it would be illegal.

As for the militaries of the world, my opinion is that they are there and not going away, as far as Im concerned we can disarm in the next few centuries with greater interdependence, (which , ill admit is radically neoliberal)

I'm for gay marriage, pot smoking, keeping god out of school and everywhere else we can.

I believe that the free market works but those who believe that it does not need regulation are market fundamentalists.

I believe what people perceive as liberalism is largely an ideological perception. Im certainly a liberal and possibly even a radical one in the general sense. Im quite a mix of things and still learning about it presently so I cannot even say exactly where I stand conceptually in the scheme of things.

I dont know I believe in alot of things...

Chuckle. Yeah I took almost 10 months off from DP. Discussed in other threads too! So using your math, since I joined in October 2007 and I'm still here, you have some kind of point? If so, please get to it. Seems to me like except for basic math, you thought you had a real "AH HA" moment. Not so much eh?:3oops:

Absolutely....when I was young 18-21, I was very Republican (even voted for Reagan....a vote that I am ashamed of to this day).

However, I grew up....received a good amount of education and have changed my views 180 degrees.

I chalk it up to being young, naive and ignorant.

Funny. I used to be a Bush-bashing uber-liberal, then I started using my brain...

Eh....I'm hot and cold. With Jallman I call it good Stich/bad Stich.
You can usually tell the mood I'm in by the posts. Usually I try to be a little humorous....other times I seek to point out hypocrisy...other times I like a serious discussion. I try not to go too overboard. Sometimes I know that I am more successful at it than others.

I doubt that seriously.

Oh well. I know it's true, since I am me, which puts me in a better position than you to determine what my political beliefs were when I was stupid eighteen year old.

That's one reason why I dislike so many ultra-liberals now. I see a lot of the same stupidity in their thinking that I displayed when I was dumb kid. The older said liberal is, the more angry they make me, since they’ve had ample time to change their ways…

Then you know what I am talking about! I'm usually in a "don't suffer fools lightly" mood, which I admit has put us via your own admission, or mood, at loggerheads.

After what you just replied to my post?
Grow up.

1. I didn't reply to your post.

2. I am quite grown.

3. Use better grammar.

K thx.

I don't recall having many loggerheads with you...have we?
MixedMedia used to reign me in when I would get too overboard. She was a good temperature control.

A leopard doesn't change their spots that easily.

Etheral....if I were you....I wouldn't be talkin. Just sayin'

Well, you're not me, so I am talking. Anyway, I'm not sure how I could be considered a partisan, since I have absolutely no allegiance to any political party or coalition, nor do I engage in the consistently hypocritical behavior that is characteristic of most partisans; therefore your accusation is without merit.

Please Etheral....you are as partisan and opinionated as any poster on this site. Sorry.....just keeping it real.

Yes we have, though they were at least 10 months and older, in the past. But truthfully speaking you know your own propensities and you have at least a modicum of control over your moods. Tonight's exercise of the same was quite refreshing. I can assure you it will help to persaude to the exact opposite effect that your prior approach did.

To quote Patrick Stewart as Gurney Hallek, in a none too PC way, MOODS are the playthings of women and cattle.

You're not making any sense, but I suspect that was never your motive...

Meaning....as long as you've been here....you views have been so far to the right that I doubt seriously that you ever had anything negative to say about GWB.
In other words....its difficult for a Leopard to change its spots. (Its an old saying).
