Personally, I've never understood why people who are struggling in this country would support Republican candidates. To me, its like gays or minorities supporting the GOP.
The GOP platform is certainly not supportive of these groups and yet some in each support the GOP. I imagine its because they find something in the platform that is so important to them that they overlook much of the other platform stands.
Self reliance is a strong trait among many low income Conservatives....Liberals dont seem to understand the concept.

self reliance is one thing....supporting a platform that encourages corporate welfare is quite another.

They would be considered "liberals" by todays conservatives.
Yeah, cause everything hinges on abortion and gay marriage with them.

Corporate welfare is the foundation of the "trickle down economics" that Republicans love and is the base of their economic policy.
The idea that if you provide tax breaks and financial incentives to corporations....that they will pass it on to their workers.
Its a nice idea....if corporations were altruistic. However, what this fails to recognize is that most corporations are more interested in providing more and more profits to their ceos and shareholders and are not inherently interested in passing down more than a few pennies to their workers.

Pretty much. I yearn for a return to a Republican party that is not controlled by the evangelical right wing.

Abortion is the only thing I'm socially conservative on....What gays do in their own homes are of no concern to me.

The religious right do not have nearly as much power as you think....How else do you think McCain won the nomination?

As hardcore leftist as I am, I actually respect true Goldwater conservatives who are not obsessed with the GOP social agenda.

I've even said that I would consider voting for Romney if he returned to his previous self before he felt the need to try to sway the right-wing base and adopt their social agenda.
I've been around since my join date. I'm simply stating that it would be nice if instead of that which you are normally known for, and you know I will be glad to illustrate what I am talking about, you could be so even keeled and rational the rest of the time. Normally you are ascribing to and making comments that I can only call irrational bilge, and you know and it and seem to revel in it.

Tell ya what. You get the democrats to stop encouraging social welfare, and I'll get the Republicans to stop encouraging corporate welfare. Either way it goes, we will all be better off.
