Good for you. This is exactly what I mean by changing attitudes and perceptions.

Another example.....when people who are against gay marriage actually meet gay people...their attitudes towards the issue change as well.
More and more gay people are coming out and more and more people are actually meeting gay people. Its only a matter of time before these perceptions change.

So your belief system, which apparently started out with "I've got to do something to help, to contribute" turned into "I've got to help the government steal more and more money so I won't feel guilty for being white."

And you think that's an improvement?

Nah, I still don't like gay people.

I just refuse to care about them so much I want to interfere in their lives.

I also see no reason why the federal government uses so many of my tax dollars to fund research into a disease that can be avoided by doing what nature intended.

"Any man (or woman) who is under 30, and is not a liberal, has no heart; and any man (or woman) who is over 30, and is not a conservative, has no brains."
    -- Winston Churchill
    Slightly altered.

Although I'm pretty sure he was not referring to drug policy, sexual matters, or other such affairs.

That's not how I would classify it.

I came from the attitude that people are stuck in their environments because they choose to be. That people with any initiative could raise themselves out of that and become a multi-millionaire if they wanted to.
Growing up and entering the real world, I realized how naive that belief is. Once I went into neighborhoods and saw the lack of resources and opportunities that people have in this country, the disparate application of our justice system, etc...I realized that the views that I had been taught by the Republican system were simply means to keep power and control over resources in the hands of the "haves".
I vowed at that point to dedicate my life to trying to make a difference. I worked in the juvenile courts as a probation officer to try to make a change and I went to law school and became an attorney to fight the injustice that exists in the system. I contribute both time and money to causes that seek to improve access to opportunities for people who grow up in poverty and poor environments.
Its not about stealing money from the rich. Its about not allowing corporate America to continue to rape the American worker by exploiting their labor.
The whole idea behind the corporate "Walmart" strategy, i.e., pay people just enough to keep them hungry and set your prices just low enough that they only patronize your business is corporate evil at its core.

That's strange. When I got out on my own I discovered I still had to kick ass and work hard to get what I wanted, and it was made doubly hard because god damned socialists where stealing my hard earned money to feed the whiners who refused to do for themselves.

And thanks to them the national economy crashed.

As opposed to the socialist idea that if you work hard you're a sucker who's going to get robbed by the socialist government.

Any reason why people who refuse to work hard should be fed with food paid for by money stolen from the people who do work hard?

    Hmmmmmm?

So, you're feeling guilty, but instead of giving your personal surplus to others, you've decided it's better to steal from others.

Therapy would be better for so many socialists. Good solid work therapy. There's always a need for more hand-made gravel.

That's fine. I have no problem with that. I wish more of the anti-gay crowd were as willing to not impose their will and views on others.

Damn, listen to the old songs better next time through.

No one promised you a rose garden.

Most people don't even get an Oral Office.

People are supposed to work to support themselves because it's their responsiblity to live, if they want to. I'm perfectly fine with letting them starve, if they'd rather not work.

THAT is the philosophy that made the Jamestown colony survive.

Nobody ever said that everyone is going to be the next Vanderbilt. If that's the lesson you took away from the history of America, you had a suckass teacher.

And no, Reagan wasn't your teacher. Your parents were.
