That's fine. I have no problem with that. I wish more of the anti-gay crowd were as willing to not impose their will and views on others.

I voted against Prop 8 in California.

That means one more bigot that voted for Obama had to make up the difference.

Thank you. Like I said. I feel strongly that people, such as yourself, should be entitled to your beliefs and ideas.
I expect, however, and thank you for your example, that people keep those views and ideas for themselves and not seek to impose those views and ideas of other people.

Of course I have, and my views are still changing. For example, the reaction of the right wing to the current administration is constantly showing me how unreasonable I was during the Bush years. There was plenty to justify it (NSA spying alone), but I was still rather paranoid and overly mistrusting of the administration's motives.

Because I disagree with you...I'm retarded? Nice.

How old are you anyway?

No, you're retarded because you're a partisan hack who's only posts on this forum are about why Republicans and Conservatives are bad, despite getting your images of them from TV. I like a lot of liberals on this site and am pretty liberal about many issues myself. I even voted for Obama. It's just that you're retarded.

Well....I guess that's how we are different. You are a partisan hack that engages in personal attacks. You do understand that its a sign of weakness right?

The only complete 180 was on abortion. When I was younger I was against "it", although I hadn't looked at all the facts and circumstances.

Although I still think it is a barbaric procedure, the choice should always be up to the individual.

Now as an adult I use facts, science, common sense, compassion, and the desire for everyone to have as much freedom as possible in guiding my positions... and I haven't had the need to change any yet.

Joe....I think you hit the nail on the head perfectly on why my views have changed as well.

I realized that the views that I had been taught by the Republican system were simply means to keep power and control over resources in the hands of the "haves".

The dirty secret Liberals refuse to believe is that there are more rich Liberals than there are rich Conservatives.

Compassion should be reserved for aborted/murdered babies.

I'm not sure....but I wouldn't necessarily doubt it.
People have liberals views for as many reasons as people have conservative views.
Not every conservative is a rich corporate CEO.

In the Army, I was a Liberal in a conservative world. At my Quaker liberal arts college I was a conservative in a liberal world. Now I see the folly of both extreme positions, where Democrats are socially liberal and economically liberal, while Republicans are socially conservative and economically moderate. I am socially liberal and economically conservative. Go Whigs!

I actually have a lot of respect for people who are socially liberal/moderate and economically conservative.
The Republican party (In Goldwater's days) shared a very similar philosophy.
They would be considered "liberals" by todays conservatives.

And yet there are some on your side that believe that.

There probably are....I think most people however understand that political views cross as socio-economics classes.

Personally, I've never understood why people who are struggling in this country would support Republican candidates. To me, its like gays or minorities supporting the GOP.
The GOP platform is certainly not supportive of these groups and yet some in each support the GOP. I imagine its because they find something in the platform that is so important to them that they overlook much of the other platform stands.

Such a refreshing change of DD pace, I guess it would be too much to hope this could continue. As versus the usual DD approach, which ain't swaying anyone to your POV. Just sayin.:)

Neither should you.

That's where we differ. Personally, I never would and I would do everything to encourage people close to me not to. However, I would assume that my belief is appropriate for them. It is their choice. Not mine.

How long have you been around?

I've said this for ages.

As hardcore leftist as I am, I actually respect true Goldwater conservatives who are not obsessed with the GOP social agenda.

I've even said that I would consider voting for Romney if he returned to his previous self before he felt the need to try to sway the right-wing base and adopt their social agenda.

Self reliance is a strong trait among many low income Conservatives....Liberals dont seem to understand the concept.

self reliance is one thing....supporting a platform that encourages corporate welfare is quite another.

Yeah, cause everything hinges on abortion and gay marriage with them.

Thats a huge part of it.

Explain.

Corporate welfare is the foundation of the "trickle down economics" that Republicans love and is the base of their economic policy.
The idea that if you provide tax breaks and financial incentives to corporations....that they will pass it on to their workers.
Its a nice idea....if corporations were altruistic. However, what this fails to recognize is that most corporations are more interested in providing more and more profits to their ceos and shareholders and are not inherently interested in passing down more than a few pennies to their workers.
