Petition Calls for NFL Running Back to Be Sacked After Gay Slurs - Sports - FOXNews.com
As Larry Johnson nears the Kansas City Chiefs' all-time rushing record, more than 10,000 fans have signed an online petition pleading for team officials to deactivate the running back after he posted homosexual slurs on his Twitter account.

Johnson, a former Pro Bowler, was suspended late last month for conduct detrimental to the team after he questioned coach Todd Haley's qualifications and posted two homosexual slurs on his Twitter account, including one in which he called another user a "Christopher street boy," an apparent reference to New York City's Christopher Street, which is synonymous with the city's gay-pride movement.

Interesting that the above two things caused his suspension. He had previous, more serious (to my mind) problems:
Since being drafted by the Chiefs in 2003, Johnson has been arrested four times for various degrees of battery, including one incident in which the Maryland native pleaded guilty to disturbing the peace after allegedly spitting in the face of a woman at a Kansas City nightclub.

Johnson later received two years' probation and was ordered to attend a domestic violence diversion program for an earlier arrest. In 2007, Johnson signed a five-year contract extension that could be worth up to $45 million, including $19 million guaranteed.

No, he does have his free speech; IMO, the homosexuals deserve to be slurred....it may not be right, of course, but he just another stupid football player...

the homosexuals deserve to be slurred? wtf?

Maybe it was a typo? Perhaps he meant slurped?

Anyway... I don't think he deserves to be fired just for that. However, I think his employers do have the right to fire him, if his actions are reflected in overall sales. This would be a legitimate reason for firing him, not the slurs.

Apparently someone doesn't know what "Free Speech" means.

Free Speech means he's not going to be ARRESTED for using that slur.

Free Speech does NOT mean that he has "Free from Reprucussions Speech".

We have this thing called the Free Market and Business. Larry Johnson functions within that. A football team exists because it gets revenue, that revenue comes from fans and sponsors. If the fans protest, and the sponsors pull out, the revenue dips. That's bad for the business. And if Larry Johnson is bad for Business, Larry Johnson can be fired.

Him saying faggot and getting sacked for it would be no different than you going to your boss and saying "You're a mother****er, screw off and go to hell" and then getting fired for it. You couldn't yell "free speech" in that instance either, because you're not getting arrested, you're having a private business react to your statements.

Free Speech does not mean Free of Consequences.

Further more....

Larry Johnson sucks now. They should sack him for that. I heard the last time he beat up his girlfriend he fled from police when they arrived. Thankfully he was tackled by one of them 2 yards later.

Finally...

Its really not that big of a deal. It was obvious he was talking about these people

Two point seven yards per carry

Two.

Point.

Seven.

Of course it's up to the team and such as per their policies. But I would say absolutely not. I don't see any problem with what he really did. We're getting well too PC these days.

I'd almost say everyone deserves it. Because we've got to learn to get the **** over it. People really care what some dumbass football player has to say? He's just a guy. He's not special. Who cares what he says? People are WAY too thin skinned these days and it's time that we develop some balls and learn to get the **** over it.

I think he should be sacked for being a thug/criminal, abusing his wife, and sucking. He isn't even good at trash talking.

I want to know when slurs against fat people will be considered a hate crime.

Right after slurs (denial) against global warming do.

But there actually are fat people, but there is no AGW. It would be like claiming that verbal attacks on the presidential accomplishments of Barak Obama were a hate crime, since in both cases the target is purely mythical.

What, you couldn't post a simple "no" or "yes" option?

The vote is for no, unless his boss is a fag that gets offended.

Doesn't seem he did anything deserving termination.

It's way past time the people in this country ceased their efforts at mind control and started accepting the fact that their perversions and deviations don't automatically make them protected from the disapproval of others.

For the other incidents, no one else would be fired for them under most normal circumstances, so why the double standard?

The homosexuals don't deserve not to be slurred.

They have no grounds for getting this man fired, not just because he made an arcane reference almost no one outside New York City understands.

So, they don't like the guy.

Fine.

They should stop watching his games.

You weren't against the Limbaugh ownership were you?

He shouldn't be cut over his use of slurs, but I'd cut him for his comments about his coaches and his lack of performance.

What does this have to do with what I said?
I don't remember having an opinion about Rush buying an NFL team, one way or the other. Does your question have a point?

That was my view. I could care less who owns a team.

Which would be the reason why he may get fired. After all, it is a business, is it not?

Nah, gays make up about 1% of the population. They'd loss more support by caving into that kind of blackmail than they would be telling the gays to bugger off.

And...when Larry sets the rushing record, that will generate enough interest to balance out any miffed gays.
