Are Tuesday elections a good thing? When do you think we should vote?

When do you think it makes the most sense to hold an election?

Why Do We Vote on Tuesday?

Why Tuesday?: "In 1845, before Florida, California, and Texas were states or slavery had been abolished, Congress needed to pick a time for Americans to vote. We were an agrarian society. We traveled by horse and buggy. Farmers needed a day to get to the county seat, a day to vote, and a day to get back, without interfering with the three days of worship. So that left Tuesday and Wednesday, but Wednesday was market day. So, Tuesday it was. In 1875 Congress extended the Tuesday date for national House elections and in 1914 for federal Senate elections."

Interesting! But, is it still useful? Are you in favor of keeping elections on the first Tuesday of November, b/c that's when we've always done it, or are you in favor of a different day or days?

Why not tuesday? :/

Why not tuesday? :/

Work and school obligations could get in the way. I think the weekend makes more sense. Or mail, like Washington State does.

Or by the internet?

They should make Election Day a national holiday.

Tuesdays work fine.

If someone is too damn lazy to vote on Tuesday, it's his choice.

Eliminate the Al Franken Ballot, there's too much opportunity for fraud when the voter doesn't have to physically show up at the poll.

Which is why the Democrats love the Al Franken Ballot.

Yes, there's too much time between Columbus Day and Thanksgiving.

We'll have to sacrifice another holiday, though.

I recommend MLKDAY. It's only two weeks after New Years and MONTHS before Memorial Day.

So, make election day.....ummm....for some reason April First sounds like the most fitting day of the year to vote for your Congressman and Senator. And, it breaks up that long span between New Years and Memorial Day...and, gee, it's right before Tax Filing Day.

Forget the day of the week, move the elections to April Fool's Day.

Why do you celebrate Columbus Day? Do you actually think Columbus discovered America? We could have the holiday around that time.

I have had this sentiment for some time.

This year, election day and the Monday preceding it were teacher workdays for public schools in my county... I doubt that was a coincidence.

I didn't vote since I don't care. I went with permanent absentee ballot status years ago, I can vote whenever I want, stick it in the mail and never have to stand in a line. It doesn't make a difference when they make the actual polling day, mine is done and received long before that.

4chan would win every election.

Although then again, that would certainly make this country a lot more interesting.
I would love to see the president in a Guy Fawkes mask.

I will tell you guys the most logical reason for Tuesday being election day.

Tuesday is associated with Mars, the old Roman god of war. Tuesday is, therefore, the best day for political warfare to take place.

Hey, it works for me.

I've said for years that the polls should be open on three consecutive days to suppress the emotionality of the event.
