Should parents use a GPS tracking device to monitor their children?

A convicted pedophile can include those that have gotten out of prison. Which means that you can still catch a convicted pedophile molesting your child or a convicted pedophile can still kidnap a child.

If they're out of prison, then they've served their sentence. They've paid debt to what they did. Murdering the person serves no purpose.

Are you telling me you are still in nursery???!!! :lamo

Revisit this topic when you will get over your teen impediments.

You brought up my age as if it were relevant to question my experience and maturity. Why can't I question your intellect especially when presented with arguments seeped in emotional tripe and low on rational thought.

I'm about to graduate with my PhD.

Intellect does not depend on PhDs as you will soon find out, but the views held do depend on age and experience. You haven't got much of either. It is not a dig.

You expect someone who knows loto numbers to share that knowledge around?

Naive or what?!

Well if you know lotto numbers, you've no doubtingly already cashed in on that. Maybe you can share the love. I mean, this power of clairvoyance of yours must be really nice and I was just hoping that you would maybe use your power to help others.

They've paid their debt? Not by a long shot. And then there is the whole recidivism thing.

Their recidivism rate is similar to other violent crimes. Furthermore, you can't punish someone (especially if you're calling for murder) for crimes they have not committed. They have paid their debt. Government used force to suppress the exercise of the their rights for a predetermined amount of time. The courts said X, they served X; it's done.

We were not talking of rapists, but of pedophiles!

And they come out of jail and continue with their activities. Check out your statistics on how many pedos reoffend.

Pedophiles convicted of sex crimes with minors have one of the lowest, if not the lowest recidivism rates of all violent crimes.

Also, the overwhelming majority of child sexual molestation is committed by men known to the family of the victim. Stranger Danger is in fact quite rare.

So when the GPS says little Tommy is at Uncle Ernie's, it doesn't mean the kid is safe. The parent has to know who his child is with, and that eliminates most of the threat.

One molested child is one too many.

Then why do courts consider past crimes when determining a sentence? And why are sexual offenders on a registry list for the rest of their lives?

I'm not a hippy to share love, hallucinations and joints, but for you I did find something that might feel you with happiness

Still does not mean that we cannot try to protect against other types of crimes.

I think this device wold be useful for travel in train stations and airports and whatnot. But Im glad my mother didn't have one of these things when i was in middle school. I assume it's to be used for small/young children.

If you have a history of committing crime, you may draw stiffer penalties for continued breakage of the law. It's not that they're being punished for crimes not committed as you suggest. They commit a crime again, get caught again, and set before a judge again. That's part of the system. Crimes come with ranges of punishment and you have a judge whom decides the specific length of time the criminal is sentenced to based on the specifics of the case and individual. That's all fine and dandy.

The registry list exists because people are crazy paranoid and think we should infinitely punish people. So in an attempt to do so, they have excused growth of overbearing, intrusive government to track people so they can feel "safe". It's pretty insane that people think it keeps them safe, but there seem to be no cure for stupidity.

Yeah, we're talking about spying on children. Ya think maybe there's a good chance if they're not tracked they'll rob the local 7-11?

That's too bad. You should probably also refrain from making assumptions about people. Thus far your arguments have been ad hominem and appeal to emotion.

One molested child is one too many.

Yeah, whatever. It's not like the crime can be eradicated. And it's not like this GPS thing is going to do any good. All that would happen if such gadgets became commonplace is that the criminal would strip the kid and throw the clothes out the window and drive off. It would only be effective if the parent knew the kid was snatched in time to get a location before the device was abandoned.

Better if the parent paid more direct attention to their kid.

It is possible. It is also possible that they will try to sneak out with their 18 year old boyfriend to have sex at the age of 13. It is also possible that they will go joy riding in some strangers car that they stole. It is also possible that they will try to skip school. It is also possible that they will do many things that they are not suppose to do.

Such a device can be used for more than just the pedophile/kidnapping that has been discussed for the most part in this thread.

Let me ask you a question. What do you think of kids having cell phones?

How can PARENTS spy on THEIR OWN children???

Easy.

They read diaries, they install character recorders on their computers, the track their movements with GPS, they eavesdrop on their telephone calls, they read their mail.

Just because it's the parents job to monitor what their little darling is doing doesn't mean it's not spying.
