Father of 9/11 Victim Fights to Have 'Murdered by Muslim Terrorists' Inscribed on Son's Memorial - Local News | News Articles | National News | US News - FOXNews.com

What do you think? The town wants to put a memorial plaque next to its town hall but the father wants the phrase 'Murdered by Muslim Terrorists' put on the plaque.

The town thinks it's just too controversial to put those words.

I would say that since it's on the town's public property, it would be up to the town to decide.

I don't think it should as it will send the wrong message. It should be to honor the memory of the departed, not trash the criminals who did it.

Just seems to be more of a revenge move than one of honoring the fallen.

I think it would dishonor the memory and the person who built such a thing.
What wrong message would that be? I don't see how the honor and trashing are mutually exclusive.

I think people just had more class back in my day. Bobby Kennedy was killed by a Palestinian terrorist, and his memorial doesn't say "murdered by Palestinian terrorist".

You speak as thought it was even considered.

It wasn't a matter of class. It was a lack of awareness of a coming trend.

And what does awareness of that trend have to do with this specific person's death, and this specific memorial?
What would you think if someone wanted a memorial for a relative on government property that said "Murdered by a black man" or something like that?

Free speech ends on government property?

This isn't even about free speech. Whose freedom of speech is being taken away? Certainly not the fathers. The issue is whether this tributary monument that is dedicated to the memory of the young man who died on 9/11 should include such words that will be divisive for the country. Hence the controversy.

Free speech....

Of course it wasn't even considered

Like I said, folks had more class.

How is it divisive?

His son was killed by Muslim terrorists. That is a stated fact. You cannot be PC with facts...

A lot of people think that you can be. Example is in the OP. In this case the PC thing to do is just not mention it.

*"Forward HOOO!!!" says the blind man while pushing on the gas pedal*

I would not mention it, personally, but I see nothing wrong with someone stating an accepted fact on a tombstone. If the terrorists were not Muslim, but of Middle Eastern descent, I could see that being an issue.

Being a muslim is not being of a particular race. It's being of a particular religion.

would the US like it if the innocents that died in the Iraq invasion had killed by American terrorists on the headstones? just asking

Because it is what many posters have said, inflammatory. Do you not think this issue has been controversial?

There is a difference between being controversial and being divisive.

And how is it inflammatory?

You don't think any Muslims will be offended?

Since it says "muslim terrorists" they shouldn't be. Unless of course they think of themselves as terrorists? In which case I could care less. Now if it had said "killed by Muslims" then I could see it as not being right. Fact is the boy was killed by muslim terrorists.

Personally I think that it is sad when facts and truth are hidden, denied, and obscured just for the sake of not trying to offend a particular group.

What if someone had an inscription that said "Murdered by a black drug-dealer"? You don't think that would offend black people who WEREN'T drug-dealers? :doh

If the black people are not drug-dealers then they shouldn't be offended. If they were drug-dealers then I don't care if they're offended or not.

Fact is fact. Truth is truth. If you don't like it oh well. People need to grow thicker skins if they are offended by the truth.

If it's on government property in public view, that just seems gratuitous and inflammatory.

So the truth is to be considered gratuitous and inflammatory now?

I empathize with the father, but that doesn't mean the city should put something so obnoxious on a memorial plaque.

You mean the truth?
