I think President Obama is more progressive on health care than Jimmy Carter was.
But is it a bad thing that he has many things in common with Carter?

    He's not much more progressive.

Considering that Carter is widely regarded as one of the worst Presidents in U.S. history, I would say so.

    There are always discernable differences.

People who fail to notice them say more about themselves than they do the politicians in question.

It should be an easy matter for you to think of some, then, eh?

As for me, I sure don't see Obama writing any books that set out to vilify a whole people, nor do I detect a money trail that leads me to conclude he is a puppet on a string.

Obama is much more market-oriented than Carter ever was. It's difficult for me to imagine Obama ever trying to control the price of gasoline, for example.

Obama doesn't reflexively condemn Israel like Carter does, nor does he reflexively support Israel like Bush does. He has taken a more nuanced approach, supporting Israel when it deserves support and offering constructive criticism when he thinks it's appropriate.

Carter seemed much more concerned with human rights as they relate to foreign policy, whereas Obama seems much more concerned with protecting American geopolitical power.

Obama clearly supports progressive globalization while making grudging concessions to labor unions, whereas Carter was much more sympathetic to the unions and made grudging concessions to globalization.

The Messiah is harder to see in the dark, especially when Carter isn't grinning.

The Messiah is trying to capture all the superlatives. Since the Best President category is taken by Reagan, he's striving for the other end.

    And succeeding, too.
