Should the Balloon Kids be taken by CPS?

What do you think? It looks as if these kids were in on this hoax. Do you think they should be taken into custody?

Should Balloon Boy Parents Lose Kids? - The Early Show - CBS News

(CBS) The Heene family's saga of a loose balloon and a 6-year-old boy riveted the nation last week. The boy was found unhurt, but the saga continues as new questions surface -- this time of child welfare -- amid police statements that the entire balloon incident was a hoax.

Wendy Murphy, a former prosecutor, addressed on "The Early Show" a growing concern for the family: Can they stay together?

Murphy said parents, Richard Heene and his wife, Mayumi, don't have to be charged with a crime in order for Protective Services to come in and take their children away.

"All they have to have is evidence of neglect or abuse," she said. "And boy, I think they've got plenty of that here."

i think it would take more than this, or else millions of children could be removed from their homes just for having loony parents. have they been neglected or physically abused?

Why? The child was never in danger.

The authorities don't like it if adults get kids to help commit a crime. That's the argument.

Even though they were idiots, no one was put in danger or appears to have been abused.

Monitoring is the way to go. Breaking up the family would be petty and nothing but revenge.

I am not sure about the balloon video but maybe for the storm chasing video.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

Re: Should the Balloon Kids be taken by CPS?

They certainly need to be monitored, any parent who would use their child in a publicity stunt might also use their child in something more dangerous. They need to be charged for every penny used by state and federal authorities in chasing down the balloon, plus any other penalties involved in purposely launching a large balloon into air-traffic's way. Jail time wouldn't be a bad idea either.
There is nothing demonstrably true that religion can provide the world that cannot be achieved more rationally through entirely secular means.

    The authorities can piss off.

No one was put into danger. The kids were not in some grave peril. The most is that they learned how scary it is to lie to EVERYONE.

It's a done deal. Make them pay for the public services used and do some community service. Then move on.
