The governemt cannot prevent this -- it can only be deterred through the promise of punichment.

Deterrence IS a form of prevention. Incarceration itself also prevents people from committing more crimes.

This is a vast overstatement -- the planet isnt even close to straining its resources. There is more than enough of everything for everyone.

That is simply not true. The path that many countries are pursuing in regards to fishing, farming, deforestation, and fossil fuel consumption are some examples. These are NOT sustainable.

So they desire the freedom to seek comfort. Any desire for the unrestricted fulfillment of one's initiatives and interests is a desire for freedom. :2razz:

Seeking is taking an active role. Most people simply take a passive one.

Not in my book. Prevention is an actual barrier.
Deterrence is a dis-incentive.

However true this may be, it doesn't negate what I said.

If prison walls don't qualify as an "actual barrier," nothing does.

And once again, you're back to your usual "You refuted all of my arguments, but I'm just going to flatly deny that you did" crap. That didn't take long at all. I guess we're done here, after a single exchange. :2wave:

Prison prevents you from committing a crime -- outside of prison.
The threat of going to prison doesnt prevent you from doing anything -- it provides you a reason to not do it, but it doesnt stop you.

Even you should be able to see this difference.

And once again, you're back to your usual "You refuted all of my arguments, but I'm just going to flatly deny that you did" crap.
I know that the truth hurts -- but its still the truth.
Maybe you should try to address what I said directly, rather than reply with some tangent.
