How about some more good news?

"The Director of Admissions at West Point called and told me [Whalen] that this would be a non-issue for my application there," Matthew says. That's no guarantee that he'll be accepted, but Matthew says it's an assurance that the suspension won't be the reason he doesn't get into the school.

He must be punished because the policy was in place. This is all I'm saying. Since the policy was in place at this school, the administrators must carry out the punishment because they must follow their own rules.

So do I think the eagle scout should be punished? No. But do I think the school administrators were wrong in giving out the punishment? No because they have to follow their own rules.

Whether you disagree that the zero-tolerance policy should be used is irrelevant because it was already part of the circumstances. Because of this the administrators could NOT do nothing.

So what has not been said on this subject? Not much.

I just want to note that policies such as these which we are almost unanimously against are put in place by the ultraliberal NEA and moms everywhere who can't differentiate between tool, toy and weapon. They are made "zero tolerance" not to provide bias protection but because if discretion is used in applying punishment, bias can and will be claimed. Just ask Sharpton.

BTW, what good is a tool if you don't have it when you need it? Anyone asking the question "what could you possibly use a pocket knife for" is an obviously and pitifully urban animal. Okay! I take it back! There are just as many if not more useful purposes for an urban knife.

If I don't have my pocket knife, I am naked, alone and at risk of starvation. Where's my knife!
I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.--Thomas Jefferson

    So here's an update:
Eagle Scout Hires Lawyer to Appeal Monthlong School Suspension - Local News | News Articles | National News | US News - FOXNews.com

It seems that the parents have got a lawyer now, and they're looking to get the suspension reversed, and to take it out of his permanent record. Which is good. They're arguing that there were many procedural steps that were not taken appropriately by the school. However, it doesn't seem like they're disputing whether or not there is a zero-tolerance policy in place. At least it doesn't seem like it's their main form of attack at this point.

A couple years back, a kid got suspended from school for carrying a plastic keychain that looked like a gun.

My dad set our birthdays for new responsibilities and privileges. I remember the age for owning a jack knife was nine.

He thinks all men should have at least a box cutter in their pocket. We do open packages and boxes every day.

A bb gun was ten and a rifle was twelve.
